Body cams change people's "ability to feel at ease in public life". ORG's @sarahlasoye.bsky.social told the BBC that there are "lots of different parts of our private life that now are subject to intrusion." We can't drift into a situation of roaming mass surveillance from high street to car park.

We’ve been put on a watchlist 🚨 “It is deeply concerning to see the Prevent duty being used to enable the monitoring of people and organisations simply because they are critical of the programme.” It raises serious questions about the right to dissent and protest. 💬 ORG’s @sarahlasoye.bsky.social

Prevent referrals rocketed by almost 40% last year 🚨 Of those referred into this counter-terrorism programme, the majority were under 18. Almost 400 were children under 10! More than a third have a mental health condition or are neurodiverse. This is a huge expansion of the surveillance state.

The Home Office says the 10-year-high in referrals could be due to the 2024 Southport attacks.

"People’s faces being scanned without consent and being added to lists is worrying enough, but the speed which Facewatch technology now makes it possible for someone to encounter the police force in the middle of their daily shop is a really dangerous escalation." 🗣️ Sarah Lasoye for ORG.

It's right that Palantir, a firm powering ICE and the war in Gaza, is blocked from the Met Police. We must go further. We must ban so-called crime-predicting tools, "which claim to predict who will commit crimes and where. These systems undermine the presumption of innocence." 🗣️ ORG's Sarah Lasoye
