The COLLABORATE trial getting underway in the UK will settle this question once and for all. It's a big one for parents of babies <29 weeks and their clinicians when a supplement to maternal milk is needed. Interested NNUs can sign up: www.imperial.ac.uk/neonatal-dat...

I thought this writing up stage of the PhD would be torture but I'm actually enjoying it. Maybe I'll write a book once the thesis is done.

I've made surprisingly good progress learning Stata, and even cracked a big coding problem all by myself. However, I'm now annoyed with it and wishing I'd just had the confidence to learn R like my stats supervisor told me I should. The reason for my annoyance? Stata can't tell me IQR 😮

Individualised nutrition of preterm infants is the new black. An interesting paper from the Cz republic came on my radar (single-center etc, but still), suggesting that a nutrition care bundles shortened time to full enteral feedign and was related to a more favourable z-score dynamics in […]

Last night I collected the last piece of data for my #HIE #Feeding PhD 🥳 I have data from the National Neonatal Research Database for 14,082 babies, questionnaire data on feeding history and symptoms from 58 families, and have done 15 interviews with 19 parents. A huge thank you to the Peeps […]

My wonderful, extraordinary, and so, so brave friend, Nadia Leake, was on BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour recently to talk about her beautiful twin boys, born at 23 weeks, and the importance of family integrated neonatal care ❤️ […]

I'm in the process of transcribing parent interviews for my #HIE #PhD mixed methods study. An emerging theme is that pathways and support often fall down for babies who are not expected to survive but then do, so this is a nicely timed publication. Parallel planning needed. Recognising […]

World Prematurity Day: when I was junior resident (SHO) in an NICU, 1981, we saved our 1st 26 wker. Survival now 90%. 2005 my daughter was born at 24 wk; here day 1 & 19 years later, on her way to becoming a nurse. What a privilege to have spent 44 years in this field #NeoSky #worldprematurityday
