Presence of breast implants is associated with a higher likelihood of a positive stress test (OR 1.78; 95% CI, 1.11-2.26; P = .02), leading to more cath, but lower likelihood of PCI www.amjmed.com/article/S000... #cardiosky

The MHRA today released new guidance for #Phage therapy in the UK. This will provide direction for scientists and researchers working to make this treatment a reality for patients. 🔬 🧪 🔗 www.gov.uk/government/n...
Dr Colin Brown, deputy director at the UK Health Security Agency, responsible for AMR, said:

“Phage therapy truly has the potential to transform the way we treat bacterial infections, especially as resistance to antibiotics grows. At UKHSA, we’re developing new ways to help increase phage therapy use and research, including a bacteriophage collection where scientists can both access and deposit phages. In time, we hope solutions like phage therapy can become a first-line treatment option.”

Some interesting learning points from BCS 1) if new AF more than 24h (not 48h) then should do TOE or if on doac for more than three weeks 2) Anticoagulate all HCM with AF 3) CHADVA now not chadsvasc (removes ambiguity of female sex modifier)

I have promoted @drasifqasim.bsky.social to my colleagues for RCP president. Innovative, driven and engaged, all interactions I’ve had with him have been positive and he was generous in his support when I looked to him for advice whilst still a trainee. This is the kind of person RCP needs.

Patients in trials are not necessarily representative of the patient cohort treated in real life. The graphic below shows the average age of pts in various landmark #heartfailure trials -often significantly younger than the age of the pts we are applying this trial evidence to. #CardioSky

I once made a #shiny leaf plot app, demonstrating the relationship between prevalence/pre-test probability, sensitivity, specificity and post-test probabilities has moved! I’ve been very happy to hear some actually use it in #meded! lmsaxhaug.shinyapps.io/Leaf_App/ #rstats #imemcc #cardiosky #foamed
Example of a webpage where you can enter sensitivity and specificity of a test, the get a plot of a green leaf showing the relationship between pretest probability, and post test probability given wither negative or positive test.
