Hej! Who else managed to snag some tickets for IKEA's bottomless meatballs? Let me know in the comments how many you managed to eat 👇 Did you know IKEA Warrington was the first IKEA here in the UK? It opened its doors 39 years ago next week on 1st October.

Today at Cabinet Office questions, I asked how government can work together on the skills and infrastructure Britain needs to make and build more. The reply mentioned Number 10 North, just a stone’s throw from Warrington. I won’t complain about Number 10 being a bit nearer home! 👇

I’m proud to call Warrington home. But our growing town needs better services and infrastructure. At PMQs I raised Warrington Hospital and Broomfields. I welcome the PM’s offer to meet and will use it to press for investment. I’ll keep banging on the door of Number 10 for Warrington.

I’ve been selected to ask the Prime Minister a question at PMQs tomorrow. So, if you had the chance to ask the Prime Minister one question, what would it be? I’d really like to hear what people here in Warrington South would ask. 1/3

New plans will strengthen council powers over vape shops, adult gaming centres and gambling premises, protect areas near schools and help tackle rogue operators. What does your high street need more of?

Three facts about Warrington South you might not know 👀 I had to fly the flag for Warrington on Times Radio this morning, so here are my three facts about Warrington South. You will have to watch the whole video to find out who wins. How many did you already know?

Out on a pop-up doorstep surgery in Penketh this afternoon. If I’d known this photo was being taken, I might have actually looked at the camera instead of having a nosey at people’s gardens! 😂

What a credit these young people are to their school. Year 6 McKellen pupils at St Philip's Westbrook have been learning about courageous advocacy and chose to campaign against hostile architecture, including spikes and divided benches that make life even harder for people experiencing homelessness

My Statement on the PMs resignation
Keir Starmer has today announced his resignation as Prime Minister.

This cannot have been an easy decision, but I believe it is the right one for the country.

I am pleased that Andy Burnham has announced that he will put himself forward to lead our party and become the next Prime Minister. Andy has my full support.

Andy has shown a deep commitment to the North and to towns like Warrington. He understands that Labour only succeeds when it is rooted in the lives and aspirations of the people we serve.

As we begin this next chapter, Labour must look forward with purpose and determination. We must be bold in our ambitions, unapologetic in standing up for working people and focused on delivering the change people were promised.

That means reconnecting with the communities we were founded to serve and showing once again that Labour is at its best when it governs with conviction, purpose and courage.

You don’t need to be an expert to see there are problems with the swing bridges. But when people see rust, tired paintwork and years of poor upkeep, it’s fair to ask why more hasn’t been done. I’ve been raising this again and again with Ministers, Peel and the Council. Here’s the update.

Had a wonderful time visiting the home of British Cycling at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester. Sadly, I didn't get the chance to try out the track myself. Having seen just how steep both the velodrome and BMX tracks are, I'm not sure I'd have been brave enough anyway!

A very windy Saturday in Bryn, but a great day on the campaign trail with colleagues supporting my good friend Andy Burnham. On doorsteps across Makerfield, the message was clear: people are tired of division and want politics that brings people together. 🌹🐝 Vote Andy this Thursday

A statement.
Last week’s elections results were devastating for our party.

Across the country and our region, we lost hardworking Labour representatives who dedicated themselves to their communities and to the values our movement was founded on.

Voters delivered a clear message.

They feel disconnected from the current leadership and frustrated that progress is not happening quickly enough.

A pattern of poor decisions and unforced errors has created a growing sense of distance between the government and the people I was elected to serve.

We cannot respond to this moment with another reset, another relaunch or more rhetoric. This moment demands radical ambition, unapologetically rooted in the lives of working people.

The people of Warrington South and across the country want to see a government with purpose, conviction and the courage to change course.

That is why, for the good of my constituents and the country, I am calling on the Prime Minister to set out a clear timetable for his resignation, with an orderly transition of leadership to take place by September.

This is not a decision I have taken lightly but it I believe it is the only viable path in front of us.

Labour governments of the past achieved the greatest successes when we were bold, confident and unapologetic about standing with working people. That is when the country trusted us most.

It was that boldness that founded the NHS, delivered secure and affordable housing, brought key industries into public ownership, introduced the national minimum wage and advanced equal pay and equality under the law.

Labour changed this country for the better because it understood that everyone deserves not just compassion, but fairness, security and opportunity.

The Labour Party was built to be the voice of working people. We cannot allow it to drift away from them now.

Flooding has had a devastating impact on families living along Sankey Brook for years. I’m really pleased we’ve now secured a further £1.36 mil for the Sankey Brook Flood Defence Scheme, building on the £3.5 mil already secured over the past year. www.warrington-worldwide.co.uk/2026/05/09/m...

Great to welcome some fantastic people to Parliament this week with Charlotte Nichols MP for the Northern Power Towns event. Warrington is already showing what’s possible. A strong economy, brilliant local businesses investing in our town, and a community that gets stuck in and gets things done.

Yesterday morning I joined one of my constituents outside Downing Street. For 22 minutes, on the 22nd April, we stood in silence alongside 22 women living with lobular breast cancer. I was proud to stand with my constituent, those 22 women, campaigners, and colleagues from all parties.

Thank you to everyone who’s already shared their experiences of urgent care in Warrington. This is exactly why urgent care needs to be safer, quicker and easier to access. So people get the right help in the right place. If you haven’t shared your story yet, please add it via the link.
Thank you to everyone who’s already shared their experiences of urgent care in Warrington.

So far, the most common issues people are raising are:

People are sent out of town
Travel barriers (no car/cost)
GP appointments unavailable
A&E used as the “only option”
Long waiting times
Poor waiting conditions
Communication / admin issues
Positive feedback for urgent care NHS staff and teams

This is exactly why urgent care needs to be safer, quicker and easier to access. So people get the right help in the right place.

If you haven’t shared your story yet, please add it via the link in the comments.

For Muslims in our town celebrating the holy month of Ramadan, the news coming out of Manchester overnight is deeply worrying.

I know many families will have seen those reports and felt a mix of fear, anger and sadness. No one should feel unsafe because of their faith. No one should feel targeted while observing a sacred time of reflection and prayer.

I’ve spoken with Warrington Islamic Association and welcome the increased police presence that will help reassure families locally.

Hate has no home in Warrington. Not in our streets. Not in our places of worship. Not in our community.

Intimidation and threats have no place here. No one should ever be made to feel unsafe because of who they are or what they believe.

Ramadan is a time of peace, reflection and togetherness. I look forward to sharing in that spirit with our Muslim community here in Warrington in the coming weeks.
