#kidlitart #picturebook #cat #dinosaur Yesterday I showed the 2 pix from my grandkids that I thought combined could be a great story. Here is option #1. More to follow!

Two stacked artworks by my grandkids. Above is a missing cat poster drawn in orange felt pen that says Emily is missine and the second is a blue and red T-Rex

Story option number one- my interpretation from the kids artwork Emily the dinosaur whisperer. Emily the cat rides an angry T-Rex, trying to calm it down. Cat says shh hush now now. Dino says why I outta!

#kidlit #illustration #dinosaur #cat #picturebook This morning I was trying to think up some possible story ideas and saw these two art pieces from two different grandkids taped to my wall. Now that could be an interesting story!

Two pieces of art, taped to a wall. One is of a missing cat named Emily, by a then 5 year old granddaughter and under it is a colouring page of a T-Rex in blue and red by a 4 yr old grandson.

Happy #kidlitpostcard day! My Barbie did all the things I couldn’t - I related more to the hobby horse. Still do! I’m Sandy, an author/illustrator with a goofy sense of humour and love of things that may go together only in my head. I’m good with that. Rep’d by Maura Kye-Casella @ Don Congdon

Happy 2026, and the first #KidLitArtPostcard day in a fresh year full of creativity and colour and joy. Oh and spunk. Lots of spunk!

An old rusty laundry-bot robot in space, with a yellow laundry basket full of clothes except for that elusive sock which is floating away in outer space. The robot with 6 bendy arms tries to recapture it. A large orange planet and a sky full of stars surround it.

Another #kidlitpostcard day is here and I get to admire all the talent on Bluesky once more!

A little fox stands on a log wearing white go-go boots. She’s declaring that I love kidlit for me. Three heads of her brother foxes peek out from the surrounding leaves.

#kidlitpostcard #kidlit #illustration Hey all, I’m Sandy, a Canadian author/illustrator. I actually played one of these clunkers when I was 12 (against my will of course). Now I can illustrate it and pretend I was amazing, though the sour notes are more accurate.

A young teen in red beret, green outfit and sawed off cowboy boots plays her accordion very badly

#100dayproject #kidlit #illustration Carlotta Klee on Insta has great quick prompts. She does more watercolour and I used felts but I think they both work and was fun to do. Day 60 of 100

7 fat birds in various colours done in felt pen and pencil crayon

I’ve been drawing behind the scenes on my iPad and not in my sketchbook, so I haven’t posted here for a while. But I needed a break from being able to correct what I don’t like and live with my mistakes, it keeps me real even if no one looks. 53/100 #100dayproject #kidlit #halloween #pumpkin

Happy October and #kidlitartpostcard day, everyone! I’m Sandy, an author/illustrator who loves all the books: PB’s, GN’s MG’s and cozies. #kidlit #cozies So fun to check out all the talent.

#100dayproject #kidlitillustration Saw this done with watercolours and ink. I don’t have watercolours, they intimidate me, so I used highlighter pen and liner pen. Topped with a cup of coffee (of course). I’ll have to try watercolours…one day.

14 stacked books, one more open that says Read more books. The stack has gibberish words for titles except for the bottom one that says books. A cup of coffee (of course) top it off.

#100dayproject #kidlitillustration 38/100 I had such a packed day I only had now to do this and that’s what I’ll say about that

#100dayproject #illustration #faces 36/100 Exaggerating faces is a fun experiment for creating cartoony characters. I’m going to make my next PB Book characters with this method. The best part of this is there’s no wrong result!

Two magazine pictures, one of Seth Rogen and a lovely model, I’ve turned into kooky characters with liner pen and a bit of felt pen

#100dayproject #illustration Day 30/100 Ok I’m fully aware I did not do this beautiful girl justice, but I had to finish what I started, and she had such a cool vibe about her. Was still fun to give it a try. Next time I’ll try making someone more cartoon-y. Is that a word??

Magazine cutout on the left wearing a blue blouse with tie up laces and tiny check shorts. On the right is a sketch in liner pen of the same girl

#100dayproject #illustration #sketch Day 29/100. I got to sit alone at a coffee shop for a bit and sketch away. One of these people is real, the rest were reference pics from #Pinterest. I had fun with this one! But I’m already fretting about what I’ll draw tomorrow

#100dayproject #illustration #hats #faces 28/100. Chipping away the number. Some days are fun. Others not so much, but I’m finding I’m learning new things about myself, even at my age. Some fun, others not so much. Samesies.

12 faces with hats. Liner pen sketches. Berets, giant bow, froggie, fedora, kerchief, knit caps bucket hat. Kid and adult faces.

#100dayproject #illustration I had ten minutes to get in today’s offering, no time to even ink it. Working on a GN pitch takes all my time right now, deadline looms. No pressure…

#100dayproject #kidlit #illustration Day 25/100 - Nova and Flotsam drawn without correction even though I was itching to redraw. But it builds character to quit trying to make everyone like what I draw and just draw because I love to do it, period.

#100dayproject #kidlit#illustration #space #outerspace #astronaut Day 23/100 my character Super Nova whom I adore. She looks different in Pencil crayon than on a Procreate screen, but equally satisfying to me.

A little astronaut in a pink spacesuit confers with her sidekick dog named Florsam. They are about to explore. Planets and stars surround them as well as a random sock, an alien spaceship and a flying teacup and saucer.

#100dayproject #perspective #illustration Perspective is so HARD for me. I want to understand it, but I have too many questions, too many huh?’s it’s almost embarrassing! I’ll just have to keep practicing. Here’s one. I think this is 20/100 overall

#100dayproject #illustration #kidlit Day19/100 Pencil crayon and felt pen. I’m a million miles from 100 but I haven’t given up yet. That alone is amazing. It’s been a HUGE lesson in humility, showing crummy art that didn’t turn out like I hoped. But it’s good to be humble…right? Right.

Red felt pen and Pencil crayon sketch of a shorts wearing, panicked crocodile being passed a basketball to shoot into the basket behind him the score is tied and the word SHOOT is being yelled. The basketball is the first ‘O’ in the word

#100dayproject #kidlit #illustration #sketch Day 16/100 Pencil crayon and a few strokes of Sharpie. Sometimes the gloom of the world can bring a person down. Be the light for someone else and you’ll change your own mindset too. 🩷

Pencil crayon sketch mostly in pink of a little girl with flowers growing out of her sleeves and hair. She’s smiling with her eyes shut. The word BLOOM is written in scrolly letters and the words ‘where you’re planted’ follow. Be the light!

#100dayproject #illustration #September 15/100. Mixed feelings about September. I’m not ready to let summer go just yet.

Warm oranges, reds and pinks marking things that come with the month of September which is written in silly font at the top. Leaves, coco, acorn, woolly sweater and socks, cat face, pumpkin+ spice= yum in a coffee cup. Soup pot, a school and a calendar touting last days of summer

#100dayproject #kidlitillustration #illustration #copic 14/100 Don’t tell me I’m cheating by not colouring directly in my sketch book, this Copic pen soaks into black felt pen and disappears, disappointing considering the price. I drew on construction paper. If you have a better pen, pls do tell

#100dayproject #illustration #kidlit I feel the pressure to be perfect lessen as I keep on with this project. I’m WAY more comfortable when I work with Procreate, where you can correct every little nuance, but I started drawing without it a million yrs ago. I should be able to figure it out again!

7 blue shapes out of blue acrylic paint pen with pencil crayon and fine tip pen make it something more. There’s a circular girls head with blond hair and glasses, a little girl sprawled out on an oval rug, reading, a strawberry in an egg shape, a rectangle pencil, a triangle with a cup of coffee in it, an oblong shaped lady head with hair in a bun and dangly earrings, a rectangle turned into a glass with something bubbly in it and a square man’s head sporting a big collar and tie

#100dayproject #illustration #socks I picked an easy prompt for today, I’m putting too much pressure on myself to make every drawing spectacular which so far has not been the case lol, so I just had some fun with felt pens. I don’t need more pressure in life!

Assorted socks of all kinds, the word ‘socks’ is written in between each sock. There are socks with hearts, ocean, plaid, stripes, lightning bolt, zebra and leopard, hotdogs, rainbows, cherries, polka dots ,stars and flowers

#100dayproject #gratitudejournal #illustration Day 5/100. I wonder if I’ll get better at the quick sketching or if I’ll just say it’s fine no matter how it turns out. Will I make it to 100? Daunting already…
