We thought people should hear Beveridge in his own words – and got Simon Callow to play him in our new film! It brings to life the Five Giants in a theatrical fantasy, and addresses what the report means for us in today's world.

Indy Bhullar at the LSE did a good article on Beveridge and eugenics: wellcomecollection.org/stories/euge... Meanwhile, we've made a feature film about the relevance of the Report to today's world.

wellcomecollection.org

Eugenics and the welfare state

Indy Bhullar explores the ideas of William Beveridge and Richard Titmuss, who were strongly influenced by eugenic thinking, and yet championed the idea of the welfare state.

Britain was fighting a world war when Beveridge proposed an enormously ambitious new welfare settlement. The response? Too expensive. Too difficult. Not now. Sound familiar? What can that battle teach us about fixing social care today?

On the shoulders of giants: social care reform

Burnham has put social care reform on the agenda. Eighty years ago, Beveridge faced some remarkably familiar objections
