I was working on a dramatic movie where the main character gets knocked out unexpectedly. It was meant to be shocking, but the test audience laughed. Adding audio of a grunt of effort from the guy hitting him beforehand was enough to slow the sequence down so it wasn’t processed as comedy.

Took my daughter to a “Jack and the Beanstalk” pantomime yesterday. Jack was about to sell his cow to a couple of thieves for a bag of beans. “Should I trust these men?” Jack asked the audience. “Noooo!” a young voice piped up from the back of the auditorium. “They’re going to screw you!”

I wrote and directed this movie! It’s coming out in cinemas across South Africa tomorrow. If you know any kids who like dinosaurs, aliens or cute jungle animals, this might be up their street. (The first movie is available on Showmax in ZA, and on Netflix everywhere else in the world)

I sleep wearing ear plugs: it does wonders for my insomnia. But last night I took out one ear plug because I thought I heard something, then I half-fell back to sleep, and in my half-awake state I felt the ear plug between my fingers and thought it was a jelly bean and ate it so that’s how I’m doing
