Not in a "scientific" context: my primary school teacher took us to places in NW Switzerland ("Jura") where we found fossils easily in a small river bed: Gryphaea, Ammonites, Belemnites... awesome to find traces of life 100s Ma old and paradise for children! I went back there with my son recently.
