You know, Bill, sometimes I regret following creative folks who have brought me joy over the years when I learn their opinions, but that is NEVER the case with you. It means a lot.

Imagine if the Democratic Party actually helped Zohran instead of trying to kneecap him at every step. A better party is immediately possible if they stop shoving money into the anti-trans combination Racism Dial/Money Toilet and instead get behind candidates people actually want.

I haven’t seen nearly enough people talking about this. The levels of greed and inhumane thinking on display is actually terrifying. America really is dystopian as fuck.

Being part of such a well-attended, relentlessly supportive, magnificently diverse community event this weekend really helped steel my heart and give me hope.

Said goodbye to our sweet Gordy (Gordianus, The Gord, Gordon T. Pussycat) after 15 years. He was the most lovable gentleman and we miss him so much.

1. Rear Window 2. North by Northwest 3. Vertigo 4. The Lady Vanishes 5. The Birds Hon mention: High Anxiety 😉 I nudged out Psycho for The Birds and I’m surprised that it didn’t make anyone else’s top 5 either — but it’s so hard to argue with some of these others!

Sinners is such a treat of a film. Clever, layered, deep, creepy, and also fun. I love a movie that feels like it was made by someone who loves movies, and Ryan Coogler must have had a ball spinning Get Out and O Brother Where Art Thou into this meditation on binaries and the spaces between them.

Too many people desperately want to believe art happens in a vacuum. I imagine that’s some of the appeal of the AI-generated stuff (but of course, big surprise in store for anyone who thinks they can, as a professor once said, “get back to the garden” there)

Weirdly just saw a thread about this elsewhere — I also stand by that the political beats and overall story arc are not at all the issue with the prequels. The writing and direction just sucks. You get an interesting story told poorly, which leads to a poor story.

I play solo sets of my own songs just infrequently enough that every time, I’m shocked by how long ago I wrote the bulk of my catalog. “No way are you ten years old now!” I’m like a divorced dad with intermittent custody of my own music.

This would be the best news but a lot of Catholics would get on the forums to complain that the church isn’t as good as at the beginning of your reign and why is it so accepting of trans people now or some bullshit.

Sometimes, usually a few weeks to a few months after my wife starts pointing it out to me, I start to go “hmm, I wonder if I’m burned out?” Anyway just a random thought from my office chair after 15 minutes of blank staring.

I think perhaps it is not helpful to argue about an election that is a done deal, and rather to form alliances and organize to fight the fascism that we are facing now.

This is the thing. In a world with a livable universal basic income, minimal IP rights would be fine. In the current world, copyright is necessary to protect creative people against Disney, Amazon, and the rest.

Watching sequentially also reminded me just how much the show hits its stride in season 3 (after the head writer switch). I remembered the first two seasons being uneven, but some of the later seasons are all over the place too (season 6, oi). 3 starts strong and almost all 20-some eps are solid.

So overall she’s not quite as awful as I remember, and she has some lovely moments in there, but the reasons to hate her are firmly established. And let’s face it: Crusher is the doctor on the Enterprise-D, just like Ringo is the drummer for the Beatles.

Jumping in mid-season 2, I was surprised that I remembered hating her as much as I did — it depends on who’s writing her, and a couple of early episodes in the season lean into her anti-Data prejudice hard enough to sour me. That sort of comes back toward the end of the season.

Watched this episode recently — my wife and I have been diving back into TNG for some comfort — and I remembered this exchange, but not that what prompted it was Pulaski relentlessly nagging Data to play an insufferable future-space-chess grand master and then being annoyed with the result 😂

I’d argue that millennials generally became less conservative and more engaged with social movements as we aged, but to be fair I 1) am speaking purely from my anecdotal experience and no data and 2) I clearly have no clue what’s been going on for the past five years

I’m amazed how many people don’t grasp that they don’t have to (and sometimes should not) voice every opinion they have. If the chef poisons you, that’s one thing; if you simply don’t like your meal, order something else next time, or dine elsewhere. Feedback isn’t always valuable or desired.

One is the things that I love about Severance is that unraveling the Mysteries is not the core of the show, the characters are. So if the goats don’t actually play into what’s going on with Mark, Gemma, Cobel, I don’t need to know to be satisfied. Same way I didn’t care what a Sith was before 1999.
