I'm still fairly inclined to believe it was a mistake given just how many spells did nothing at all or even the opposite of what they were supposed to. With casting so messed up in general, it feels more likely to me that INT doing nothing was a bug than an intentional move 100

If you kill the Asylum Demon, step through the escape route gate and either quit or darksign before it finishes dying, the flag will be set for Oscar to give you the Big Pilgrim's Key, but it won't save that the demon is dead, so you can leave without killing it 120
