“The Flea” hits even harder when you find out the original was printed with the long S, something Donne was surely playing with.

The Altman quote here—”some things are going to go very wrong with cybersecurity unless some people act quite urgently”—is classic abuser rhetoric, washing one‘s hands of any blame. Not much different from “this is going to hurt me more than it hurts you.” www.nytimes.com/2026/09/08/u...
Sam Altman, the chief executive of OpenAI, said last week that “some things are going to go very wrong with cybersecurity unless some people act quite urgently.”

Sundaresan still looks at “Everydays” sometimes. He built a virtual viewing space in which his record-breaking jpeg appears 13 stories high. Using a VR headset and joystick he can navigate the collage’s surface, inspecting its 5,000 drawings in closer detail, as if scaling a building on a window-cleaning platform. He never made the experience public but allows friends to look whenever they ask to “see the Beeple.”

For reasons, I went looking for the original job ad for my first academic position. Found it! Hard to imagine, but the department was hiring *three* tenure lines that year (2003).
George Mason U
English, MSN 3E4 Fairfax VA 22030
Assistant Professor of English

Tenure-track Assistant Professor, to begin Fall 2004, in New Media and Literary Studies. The successful candidate will also collaborate on projects with members of the New Media Group in English (http://chnm.gmu edu/ematters/nmge). Must demonstrate potential for excellence in scholarship and in graduate and undergraduate teaching, including general education courses in composition and literature. Send cover letter, CV, a writing sample, and at least 3 letters of recommendation to Rosemary Jann, Search Committee, Dept. of English, Mailstop #3E4, George Mason University, Fairfax, VA 22030. Your first instinct was correct! Anna’s Archive EXPLICITLY invites the training of LLMs on its datasets. Even offers the datasets in exchange for “donations in the range of tens of thousands USD.” 🤮
Anna’s Archive

📚 The largest truly open library in human history. 📈 64,416,225 books, 95,689,473 papers — preserved forever.

⭐️ Our code and data are 100% open source. Learn more…

It is well understood that LLMs thrive on high-quality data. We have the largest collection of books, papers, magazines, etc in the world, which are some of the highest quality text sources.

Unique scale and range
Our collection contains over a hundred million files, including academic journals, textbooks, and magazines. We achieve this scale by combining large existing repositories.

Some of our source collections are already available in bulk (Sci-Hub, and parts of Libgen). Other sources we liberated ourselves. Datasets shows a full overviewOur collection includes millions of books, papers, and magazines from before the e-book era. Large parts of this collection have already been OCR’ed, and already have little internal overlap.

How we can help
We’re able to provide high-speed access to our full collections, as well as to unreleased collections.

This is enterprise-level access that we can provide for donations in the range of tens of thousands USD. We’re also willing to trade this for high-quality collections that we don’t have yet.

We can refund you if you’re able to provide us with enrichment of our data, such as:
OCR
Removing overlap (deduplication)
Text and metadata extraction
Support long-term archival of human knowledge, while getting better data for your model!

Contact us to discuss how we can work together.

Mesopotamia (1917), by Rudyard Kipling (full poem in alt text)
Mesopotamia

By Rudyard Kipling (1917)

They shall not return to us, the resolute, the young,
    The eager and whole-hearted whom we gave:
But the men who left them thriftily to die in their own dung,
    Shall they come with years and honour to the grave?

They shall not return to us, the strong men coldly slain
    In sight of help denied from day to day:
But the men who edged their agonies and chid them in their pain,
    Are they too strong and wise to put away?

Our dead shall not return to us while Day and Night divide—
    Never while the bars of sunset hold.
But the idle-minded overlings who quibbled while they died,
    Shall they thrust for high employments as of old?

Shall we only threaten and be angry for an hour?
    When the storm is ended shall we find
How softly but how swiftly they have sidled back to power
    By the favour and contrivance of their kind?

Even while they soothe us, while they promise large amends,
    Even while they make a show of fear,
Do they call upon their debtors, and take counsel with their friends,
    To conform and re-establish each career?

Their lives cannot repay us—their death could not undo—
    The shame that they have laid upon our race.
But the slothfulness that wasted and the arrogance that slew,
    Shall we leave it unabated in its place?

Today I updated my procedurally-generated million-stanza ode to the daily news fugitivetexts.net/acts/
A series of short pieces of flash fiction. From top left: "The librarian secretly kept copies as fictional characters were exiled." - "This evening a person came up to Yamileth and haded a letter to her. The air was thick with anticipation." - "Sculpture" - "Rory was let go from the National Endowment for the Humanities. By a 22-year-old intern." - "Kaylani didn't see herself as a poet but she tried writing a poem about war anyway." - "The blue light of Noemi's phone bathed her face. Could the news be any worse?" - "Ring camera footage shows ICE arresting Blanca Camacho Navarro, a union organizer and legal immigrant with an American spouse." - "portrait" - "The shell casing dropped to the asphalt, the word 'delay' scribbled on it with a red sharpie." - "Fight." - "7 professors and students executed in Oklahoma with a Sig Sauer p226. RFK Jr. says the victims should have learned CPT." - "With bitter fury Taylor read poetry in allews where cameras couldn't see." - "More files were released today. Including photos of [name redacted] and [name redacted] in a hot tub." - "Simone wrote poetry that remained when monuments fell. Her poems filled Danielle's heart with a mixture of resignation and hope." - "Just after midnight you came across the message 'POWER TO THE PEOPLE' chaled on the street sign." - "See that salt water, and paper and gasoline, causing a fire"

Three stories in white boxes overlayed against a watercolor map of the Gulf of Mexico.

Story 1:
Huntsville, Texas
Saturday, July 3, 2027

Blake speeds home, desperately hoping his daughter has already gotten out. But he can't even get within 15 miles of Huntsville. The fire is too close. He texts home, but the cell towers are down.

Story 2:
Conroe, Texas
Friday, December 11, 2026

"It's a scorcher today," they say. Today? You mean this year. The paint on the sign leading to Montgomery County Fair Grounds bubbles in the torrid heat. Not a single bird flies in the silent sky.

Story 3:
Houston, Texas
Saturday, October 21, 2028

The cyanobacteria bloom began off-shore, feeding on agricultural runoff in the warming waters. Within days, lifeless dolphins began washing ashore, salt, blood, and sulphur on the wind. Caiden hunched over in the heat, gagging on death.

Spent part of my Saturday afternoon writing a FOIA request to my town's police department regarding their use of Flock cameras. Their public records request portal only gives you 1000 characters to work with, but I made good use of those characters.
Under NC Gen. Stat. §132-1, I request records about the Town of Davidson’s use of Flock Safety ALPR cameras, including:

- The number of license plates scanned in the past 90 days;

- Names of all hot lists or watch lists used;

- Local, state, and federal agencies that shared or received Flock data in the past 90 days;

- Emails from or to “@flocksafety.com” in the past 90 days with “Camera Access Request” in the subject;

- Any user access logs or audit reports for the past 90 days;

- All contracts, MOUs, purchase orders, or agreements with Flock Safety;

- Any agreements with HOAs, private businesses, or individuals for Flock access;

- Any policies on Flock data retention or sharing;

- Records showing Flock camera locations and any correspondence or documentation on why those sites were chosen.

Please provide records electronically.

Dear Penn community,

The University of Pennsylvania is a dogshit elitist institution full of woke retards. We have terrible security practices and are completely unmeritocratic. We hire and admit morons because we love legacies, donors, and unqualified affirmative action admits. We love breaking federal laws like FERPA (all your data will be leaked) and Supreme Court rulings like SFFA.

Please stop giving us money.

Warm regards,
