I've been trying to remember what this series was called for genuinely 25 years. Thank you!! I played Hugo III, Jungle of Doom! on floppy disk in the 90s and was totally obsessed. IIRC the solution to one puzzle is to make a voodoo doll out of clay and poke it with needles.

I got frustrated with First Chapter and ended up playing the original, and I'm so glad I did! I much preferred the originals. The "doll" like character models made it so much easier to imprint emotion. Not to mention the wonderful character portraits. I also find the combat tighter in the OG.

I love how the orbment system feels kind of busted in a 90s JRPG system way, but it ends up feeling surprisingly balanced and breezy to use for all that. Bring back busted systems..!

So much of the graphical tech looks like hokey to me anyhow. The hair movement is really distracting, and all the effort put into clothing animations and stuff just gives me uncanny valley warnings. It's kind of giving Heavy Rain.

I think a lot of people had busted sets with bad calibration. My family set’s contrast and brightness was so busted and we just didn’t know better. Also I played all my games in stereo mode not realising our TV was mono…

I agree so far. I feel like it can be difficult to parse all the information you’re seeing on screen. Half the time when I die I’m like “huh?”. And I often forget about the shard or whatever because I’m exploring. A lot of the mechanics feel unintuitive and I don’t love the controls.
