Heavy optional skate with only Capobianco and Blackwell skating in Frisco today.

"It takes time. I get that. But it is a bit alarming to see the same 5v5 production issues that essentially ended their season early last spring creeping in to start 2026-27. And no power-play heroics to overcome it, so far." @DLLS_Stars

Stars lose 2-1 in Nashville after scoring the first goal just 47 seconds in. Offense non-existent to start 2026-27. Back at it Monday at home vs San Jose. Go Canes.

The second period happened. I hear the third period will happen next.

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Nashville power play has two tonight. 2-1 Preds. Dallas has not created a whole lot since the opening goal.

Stars lines in Nashville: Robertson - Hintz - Seguin Hryckowian - Johnston - Rantanen Steel - Hyry - Benn Bäck - Faksa - Blackwell Harley - Heiskanen Lindell - Lundkvist Bichsel - Myers DeSmith Oettinger

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Gulutzan told Heika that he really liked Jamie Benn’s game last night. Said Benn needs to play more than the 10 mins he did when he is going well. “We have to make some plays” is the common theme heading into tonight.

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Per Heiks, Colin Blackwell comes in for Kiviranta tonight in Nashville. Casey DeSmith in net.

000

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Roope Hintz said he feels fine. Said he thought he was badly hurt when it first happened, but got lucky with the actual contact that there wasn’t more of an injury.

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Snuggerud ices it. Stars will lose game 1 of 2026-27 at home to St. Louis. Blues add another empty netter for good measure. 4-0. Penalties and a couple of silly mistakes really hurt them. Good second period, but lots of room to grow. Right back at it tomorrow in Music City.

020

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Steady dose of Robertson-Johnston-Rantanen in the third period.

010

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Great news. Roope Hintz is back on the Stars bench.

073

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

The main focus is on Roope Hintz, of course. But for now, Dallas has two minutes of 4v4 followed by three minutes of PP time to get back in this game.

010

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Roope Hintz stays down for a bit and is helped off the ice after a knee on knee hit from Brandon Carlo. Hintz leaves the game, Carlo gets a major penalty that will be reviewed. Shit.

021

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Oettinger makes a great pad save in tight, but again gets tied up with his own players in front, who are also unable to clear the puck. Another somewhat wide-open net goal for the Blues, and it's 3-0 just like that. Dallas challenging for offside.

010

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Hintz and Oettinger click skates on the breakout, Oettinger goes swimming, and the Blues wire one into the wide-open net to make it 2-0. Dallas had momentum too. Tough one.

010

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Anything but a clean game in front of Oettinger to get back into the swing of things after not playing since April. All bouncing pucks and blocked shots around his crease with STL controlling most of the play. 29 has tracked it well so far.

010

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Damn, is it ever good to hear "Number 91, Tyler Seguin" from Jeff K again.

050

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Quite the ovation for Glen Gulutzan inside the AAC.

Jake Oettinger starts vs STL. Here we go.

Matt Duchene has officially been placed on LTIR (retroactive to 9/29). Colin Blackwell and Arttu Hyry have been called up from Texas.

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Matt Duchene has been placed on IR, according to the NHL media site.

000

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Matt Duchene is doubtful for Friday’s season opener with an upper-body issue. Had a recent setback.

000

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Matt Duchene is the only absent party for practice today. Hryckowian - Johnston - Rantanen Robertson - Hintz - Seguin Steel - Kiviranta - Benn Bäck - Faksa - Capobianco* Harley - Heiskanen Lindell - Lundkvist Bichsel - Myers Oettinger DeSmith

110

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Dallas has re-signed backup goalie Casey DeSmith to a two-year extension with a nice raise up to $2.5M AAV (from just over $1 million AAV over three years). The elite Oettinger/DeSmith duo is here to stay for three more seasons, at least.

010

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

Tyler Seguin is on pace to play Friday, which is obviously wonderful news. Both Colin Blackwell and Matt Duchene skated on their own today and felt good.

030

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

Plan is for Colin Blackwell and Matt Duchene to both skate tomorrow. Could maybe play Friday. Not tomorrow.

030

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

Stars practice lines Hryckowian - Johnston - Rantanen Robertson - Hintz - Seguin Steel - Hyry - Benn Bäck - Faksa - Kiviranta Harley - Heiskanen Lindell - Lundkvist Bichsel - Myers Oettinger DeSmith *No Duchene, Blackwell*

021

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

No Matt Duchene or Colin Blackwell at practice.

010

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

Practice groups are pretty much split NHL and everybody else today. No Hughes or Tiefensee skating. Expecting roster moves soon with the AHL team playing a preseason tourney this weekend. They will still roll out a mixed lineup tomorrow before the dress rehearsal Friday.

030

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

Stars win 2-1, improve to 2-0 in the short preseason. Home and home against Minnesota Wednesday/Friday, then it's go time for real.

010

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

If there is a scrum, you better believe Hryckowian^2 is involved. What's a scrum?

020

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

Beautifullllll execution on the rush -- Dylan Hryckowian tossed a nice backhand over to Rantanen, who handled it in his skates and tossed a backhand for Nils Lundkvist to HAMMER with a one-time clapper from the hashes. Barely squeaked through Romanov to make it 2-0.

020

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

Georgii Romanov replaced Joel Hofer in net for St. Louis to start the third period. Looks like Casey DeSmith will get the full game. Have to wonder if Arno Tiefensee would have played if he were suited up tonight. My guess is yes.

010

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

Pssst... another fight. Burroughs fights in defense of his own penalty again, this time it's against Dylan Holloway, and Burroughs perfectly executed the switch to his left hand and landed a perfect straight left that dropped Holloway. Holloway to the room, STL power play.

010

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

Dallas doing a bit too much circling in its own end. DeSmith has made 5-6 point-blank pad saves after defensive breakdowns.

010

Sam Nestler @samnestler.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

We can only hope the Dallas Stars fight as much as the Dallas Stars prospects, eh? Another fight. Andersen drops the gloves for maybe the 3rd time, including the prospect tournament, and Petersen does the same for the second straight game. Good fight, too.
