I reckon the person who invented self-checkout has never actually used one. It’s basically a job interview where the machine suspects you’re stealing and you’re too embarrassed to defend yourself.

I love people who say “I’m really good with names.” Alright, what’s my name? “Mate.” You’ve just called me the Australian equivalent of “hey you.”

I think whoever invented fitted sheets knew exactly what they were doing. They just wanted one household item that could humble an adult in under 30 seconds.

I love when someone says “I’m nearly there.” That’s not a location. That’s a personality type.

I love how every dog has a completely different interpretation of “stay.” Some mean “stay.” Others mean “I heard you, but let’s see what happens.”

I’m nursing a hangover, which sounds much more impressive than it is. Like I have a qualification in hangover care.

I love when someone says “I’m very organised” and then spends ten minutes looking for the piece of paper they wrote their organisational system on.

I love how “bring a plate” at a barbecue sounds like a simple request until you arrive and realise everyone else has brought a full catering operation. Now I’m standing there holding a supermarket dip like I’ve personally ruined Christmas.

I love when someone says “I’m pretty spontaneous.” Then you ask what they want for dinner and they need 45 minutes to process the options.

I love how supermarkets have a “10 items or less” checkout like they’re not about to watch me confidently put 14 things down and avoid eye contact with the cashier.

Shouldn’t hindsight be 2026 by now?

I love when a dog sees another dog across the street and suddenly becomes an international diplomat. No pulling. No barking. Just intense eye contact and a silent exchange of classified information.

I think pigeons are just flying around with absolutely no idea what anyone else is doing. “Where are you going?” “Nowhere.” “Cool, me neither.”

I feel bad for hermit crabs. Imagine desperately wanting to be social but nobody invites you anywhere because everyone assumes you’re happy staying in your shell.

Nothing makes you feel more powerful than carrying all the shopping bags in one trip. Nothing changes that feeling quicker than dropping everything at the front door.

Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
I love when someone says “I don’t need to write it down, I’ll remember.” Mate, you forgot your own PIN while typing it into the machine.

Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
I love when someone says “I’m just going to have a quiet night.” Then suddenly it’s 1am and you’re explaining to a stranger why you think you’d be good at running a small country.
010
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
I love when someone says “I’m not usually like this.” That’s exactly what someone who is usually like this would say.
010
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
I love when someone says “I’ll just have a quick look.” That’s how I’ve spent 45 minutes researching a $12 toaster I have no intention of buying.

Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
I’ve reached the age where I get genuinely excited when an appointment gets cancelled. Not because I didn’t want to go. Because I now have two free hours and absolutely no plans for them.

Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Nothing makes you feel richer than finding $20 in an old jacket. For about six seconds, you’re basically Gina Rinehart.
020
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
I love when someone says “I’ve got a system.” And the system is just putting things in a pile and trusting themselves to remember what the pile means.
010
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
I love when someone says “it’s a very simple recipe.” Then the first instruction is “you’ll need to prepare the ingredients the night before.”
020
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I love when someone says “don’t overthink it.” That’s like telling a dog “don’t eat that.” You’ve just made it the most interesting thing in the room.
000
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
I love when a restaurant says “kitchen closes at 10.” At 9:52 I’m suddenly making decisions like I’m negotiating a hostage release.
010
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
I love when someone says “I’m not a morning person.” Neither is the morning, pal. That’s why it’s so early.
000
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
I love when someone says “we’ll just split the bill evenly.” Absolutely. I had the steak, you had a glass of water. Let’s make this weird.

Today feels like the kind of day where you say “I’ll just lie down for five minutes” and suddenly it’s three hours later and your phone battery is on 2% and your future is cancelled.

Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
Bring home the bacon is fine if you’re a butcher but I’d personally prefer money.

Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Put your money where your mouth is a fun saying but also very unhygienic.

Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
I have an inferiority complex. It’s not even a very good one.

My favourite thing about having a dishwasher is opening it after the cycle and finding one fork that’s somehow still covered in an entire meal.

Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
Nothing humbles you faster than trying to pull a door that says PUSH. You stand there for three seconds like, “Alright, let’s all pretend that didn’t happen.”
020
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
I hate when someone says “make yourself comfortable” because now I have to guess how comfortable you actually mean. Like, can I take my shoes off or are we about to ruin a friendship?
000
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
I love when someone says, “I’ll just lie down for five minutes.” That’s not a rest. That’s an unexpected time jump.
020
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
I love when someone says, “I’m not hungry.” Then watches you eat like they’ve just been released from a hostage situation.
000
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 20/08/2026
There’s a special kind of confidence in someone who says, “I’ve never been good with directions,” and then immediately starts giving directions.
000
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
I love when a waiter says, “Are you ready to order?” No mate, I was ready 40 minutes ago. You disappeared and I had to start a new life.

I love when someone says, “It’s just around the corner.” There is no corner. We’ve been walking for 25 minutes and I’m starting to think we’re in a different suburb.
010
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
The older I get, the more exciting a package arriving is. Not because I remember ordering it. Because apparently I’ve reached the age where I enjoy receiving evidence of my own financial decisions.
000
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 15/08/2026
Nothing makes you feel more responsible than remembering your reusable shopping bags. Until you realise they’re in the car and you’re standing at the checkout trying to juggle twelve groceries like you’re auditioning for Cirque du Soleil.
010
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
I love when someone says, “I don’t really watch TV.” What are you doing with all those hours? Reading the terms and conditions?
011
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 13/08/2026
I love when someone says, “Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing.” That’s exactly when I start worrying about everything.
000
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
I love when someone says, “I won’t be long.” That’s not a timeframe. That’s a threat.
000
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 10/08/2026
My toxic trait is saying “I don’t mind where we eat” and then rejecting every restaurant suggestion like I’m judging the final season of MasterChef.
010
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
I don’t trust history. It was written by people who mostly weren’t even there.
010
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 07/08/2026
Nothing reveals your true personality faster than someone saying, “Can you reverse into that spot?” Suddenly you’re either a Formula 1 driver or negotiating with geometry.
020
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
I love when someone says, “I know a place.” No address. No suburb. Just absolute faith that I’ll follow them into a warehouse district for what better be an exceptional sandwich.
000
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
The confidence of someone saying “I’ll just eyeball it” should be reserved for hostage negotiators, not people hanging shelves.
000
Sammy Petersen @sammypetersen.bsky.social · 04/08/2026
Every group has one friend who says, “I’ve got a great memory.” Then spends the next five minutes trying to remember the name of someone they’ve known since Year 8.
