Hello. I've deleted my Facebook and Instagram accounts in an attempt to have healthier social media habits. Is anyone still posting here?

Honestly the whole thing seems like a PR stunt. The "going dark" pop-up message on TT last night was like "President Trump is on the way!" the CEO is going to the inauguration, etc. The self-dealing is insane, and so is the obvious attempt to seem like the hero who saved the masses' favorite app.

What bothers me about it all is that the law, originally proposed by the GOP, passed the House with 300+ votes, the Senate, was signed by Biden and upheld by (an obviously very conservative) SCOTUS. But Trump can just... undo it all w/ an EO? Why even have branches of government?

Paul Bloom wrote a book about this that I loved so much, called AGAINST EMPATHY: THE CASE FOR RATIONAL COMPASSION.

It kind of reminds of that episode of The Simpsons when Homer says: "Mmm. Beer. The cause and solution to all of life's problems." We'll need AI algorithms to filter out AI-generated pollution on search results, etc.

Hello, hello, is this thing on? I'm glad they dropped the invite code requirement but I just want usable hashtags.

Some of the stuff that pops up on hsozkult is very weird and entertaining. I always ask myself "how many people will really apply for this?" Knowing that, of course, many will

I would consider publishing it, or a revised version of it in a peer-reviewed journal. Lots of venues to choose from: various disability or public policy or history pubs would probably be glad to review it. They're usually 8,000-10,000 words.

View from my office window at the Forschungszentrum Gotha. Looks like Gotha is setting up a little Christmas market, with a big Christmas Tree. #skystorians #gotha

And, for the BlueSky crowd: Today, I am excited to start a new Fellowship at the Forschungszentrum Gotha of the University of Erfurt, working with material at the Schloss Friedenstein (@Friedenstein). Gotha is a lovely little town, I'll post some pictures later!

Whenever I've been working at the StaBi (or wherever) and order a ton of books from the Außenmagazin, I always wonder about those transports, and the workers who get to just zip around picking books off the shelf and carting them back and forth.

Excited to be participating in a panel on "Writing Biographically" at this year's German Studies Association conference. My paper, "Loose Biography: The Opportunities and Challenges of Writing History by Doing Less," will explore the risks and opportunities of writing biography. #theGSA2023

It'll get better and busier here over time, hopefully. (Especially if X goes fully behind a paywall!)
