Watched this in the cinema last night, it is a devastating and very important film. Haunting.

As barricades appear in Paris once again - this time, full of overturned wheelie bins and burning lime bikes - resharing a piece I wrote last year about the cultural life of barricades.

After passing the Hillsborough Law, the Government have now announced a consultation on curtailing the work of the Undercover Policing Inquiry. This would be yet another miscarriage of justice. The spy cops scandal must be investigated in full.

Sad to see that the Major Oak of Sherwood Forest has died. Here's a blog post I wrote about it a couple of months ago... "For many centuries after its death, the Major Oak will be standing here too. Stood tall, and still carrying word of Robin Hood."

It's beginning to sound glib to say "think about what Nigel Farage will do with these powers" every time the Labour government unveils another authoritarian or racist policy. After all, this is what Labour are doing right now. But categorising protest as terrorism is truly a slippery slope to hell.

This comes after the Filton case last Friday, which was the first time in Britain that anyone has faced terrorism enhancements without being actually convicted of terrorism. And all done without the jury ever knowing. The right to a fair trial is under attack.

Their ruling just now: "[Palestine Action] is not, as it claims, a direct action civil disobedience protest group like the suffragettes, operating transparently in the open." Wildly ahistorical stuff. How can judges with such a poor grasp of protest history sit in judgement over such a case?

Absurd decision by the Court of Appeal to uphold the ban on direct action via the proscription of Palestine Action as "terrorism". The idea that support for a protest group is now punishable by up to 14 years in prison make a mockery of our democratic rights. A dark day for British democracy.

As Israeli soldiers massacre Palestinians at aid distribution points, our government continues to provide Israel with military, intelligence, and political support. For Starmer and Lammy, the blood will never wash off.

The Palestine protests have been an admirable exception, but - let's be honest - we've otherwise neglected mass mobilisation on the UK left. Yeh, it's hard. Yeh, nobody wants to fund it. But it's important and it actually affects things, creates things, sparks new possibilities.

Watching the overton window shift rightward as the Starmer government cedes ground on everything from benefits to public spending, migration to human rights, is truly depressing. But vital to remember that we have agency here too. Mass mobilisation doesn't just randomly happen!
