I'm hoping to start some similar work at York so I'm keen to read your reflections, and the published paper should help others of us justify funding 🤞so thanks!

I'm glad to hear that the issue wasn't reluctance to recognise the value of the topic! Alas all reviewers and editors are overladen these days so this kind of timeline is all too common - I could tell a similar tale for a different journal.

Today I made this plot (among other things)
A pitch contours plot showing the shape of pitch rise at the end of questions in Cairene Egyptian Arabic, on words with different numbers of syllables, and with the stress on different syllables of the word. The rise typically starts at the beginning of the stressed syllable then carries on rising towards the end of the utterance. There are some dinks in the rise along the way in some cases, but those can mostly be explained by the properties of the sounds in the word, such as a fully voiced /d/ between two vowels, that depresses the F0 contour due to voicing during the closure.
