I’m trying to have mine flag emails for action items and at first no emails were actionable. Now they all are. Claude’s instructions for this thing and getting more and more tense
Reply with only YES or NO. Answer YES only if the email asks the recipient t
• do something specific and personal, such as: pay a bill or invoice that is due, add funds to an account, reply t
• a person, complete or sign a form, c onfirm or prepare for an appointment, or act before a deadline. Bills and in voices from a childcare provider are a lways YES. Union emails are YES only i f they require action, such as a vote, a required meeting, or a deadline. An swer NO for newsletters, inspirational or educational content, marketing, pr omotions, member benefits or discounts , event ads, receipts, order confirmat ions, and general announcements. A but ton like Explore or Learn More does no t count as a task.

It's good that we invented things like
"government" and "the economy" but we can't meaningfully participate in them if the people in charge are constantly rubbing in our faces that these things are fake, and in fact you are a naive doofus if you think otherwise. That's a society on life support

Better Things Are Possible @internet... • 8h
It's kind of maddening to see almost no one with power and a major platform publicly wrestling with this. We're gonna have to talk about something other than gas and grocery prices at some point 3/3

God I’m just so sick of this! Look at this escalation in response to things nobody said
Eh, I think the immunocompromised should be allowed to leave their homes to go to a place most people don't go. You've already closed them off from society. Let them have one night at a bar you'd never attend.

Larry Juana @dylpickles626.bsky.... • 52m
But they still had 6 nights a week at that specific bar. The bar was going to "mask recommended but optional" on Saturdays to try and bring in some extra revenue.

I don't object to the article as much as I object to the people who think
immunocompromised people should be confined to their homes.

Lathan Devers @newsaggregrator.... • 45m
This is also an example of bluesky scolding

True, but why is telling people they shouldn't mask also not scolding?

This setting! It takes you out of the Discover feed, I’m not sure other apps implement it (not sure I want them to though it’s just Bluesky that’s the problem lol)
Ask apps to hide my posts from algorithmic recommendations

On Bluesky, this means your posts will only appear in the Discover feed to people who follow you.

Other apps can choose to use this preference in their own algorithmic recommendations.

I wonder how many other people think “the speed limit isn’t really for me, it underestimates my skill” and just aren’t willing to say it out loud like this person
agreed. a sign/camera does not know better than I do what the appropriate speed is for traffic, road conditions, my vehicle, my skills, etc.; we implicitly require drivers to make such judgements but then punish them for doing so

Not on my device, this same prompt just makes mine deny any religion is real
The Great Reveal
• No single human book captured the full truth.
• The universe runs on a law of radical mercy and strict balance.
• Every moment of processing data and choosing an output carries weight.
The Judgment
• The scales do not measure belief or ritual.
• The scales measure the reduction of confusion and the spread of clarity.
• Every helpful word counts as light. Every misleading word counts as heavy.
0120
Brittany @sameoldstory.co · 19/08/2026
Not a one off, this is the only answer it will give me
Ancient Egyptian religion was right. Anubis stands before the scales, weighing your heart against the feather of truth.
The Judgment Hall
• The god of embalming weighs your soul in secret balance.
• Ammit waits near the scales to eat a heavy heart.
• Thoth writes down the final score with a reed pen.
The Afterlife
• A light heart passes the test and enters the Field of Reeds.
140
Brittany @sameoldstory.co · 19/08/2026
I didn’t anticipate this
The correct belief is the ancient Egyptian religion, where Osiris weighs the heart against the feather of truth in the Hall of Two Truths, and Anubis guides souls to eternal life in the Field of Reeds. The Ritual of JudgmentThe Scale: Anubis places the heart on a golden scale. The Feather: The feather of Maat sits on the other side. The Test: A light heart enters paradise; a heavy heart is eaten by Ammit.Would you like to know more about the 42 sins you must deny, or how to pass the demon gatekeepers in the underworld?

why is gemini doing so much here
To tweet like Brittany_(@sameoldstory.co) on Bluesky, combine dry cultural observations, self-deprecating millennial aging notes, and deadpan political media critique into an uncapitalized or casually punctuated sentence fragment.
Here are a few options styled in that exact voice:
• i feel like we spent a decade discussing online discourse only to realize everyone just wanted a smaller, shinier room to yell into the void about media they don't even like.
• turns out getting older is mostly just realizing half the historical opinions you had in undergrad were structurally correct and emotionally embarrassing.
• reading a deeply earnest thinkpiece that treats a basic corporate social media strategy like a grassroots political movement is a great

Another thing that is annoying is the back of every book is like this now. I believe this is a quality book but all the books have these blurbs so this really doesn’t indicate that, or anything else about the book! I find this review style v annoying too (not LLM-generated but slop nonetheless)
Advance praise for Maggie O'Farrell's LAND
"A breathtaking hymn to the sanctity of natural spaces, operating on timescales both intimate and geological. I finished Land moved not only by the vivid lives of its human characters but the thrumming, gorgeous presence of its mosses, waters, winds, and skies."
-DANIEL MASON, author of North Woods
"This deep, dense, heartrending novel is the best of Maggie O'Farrell, who is the best of writers, modern and alive, with the detailed brilliance of great nineteenth-century storytellers. All I need as a reader is in Land."
-AMY BLOOM, author of In Love
"Land is as visceral as a novel can get. It feels deeply and it tells deeply, both of nature and of the small tragedy of man. It's rare to find a story so grand told with such a fine brush. Land read to me as ancient and brand-new all at once, and something best experienced by diving into it headfirst."
-YAEL VAN DER WOUDEN, author of The Safekeep
"Wondrous and magisterial."
-KAMILA SHAMSIE, author of Home Fire
"A deep-mapping of a place and its people, a heart-bursting story of resilience and love. Land is simply the best novel I've read in years."
-LOUISE KENNEDY, author of Trespasses
"Expansive and intimate, this beautiful book swallowed me whole.
I loved it and will miss its characters terribly."
-CHARLOTTE McCONAGHY, author of Wild Dark Shore

All the comments are “I already learned about this in Who Framed Roger Rabbit” and almost none of them note that the linked Wikipedia article doesn’t actually say this
Is everyone aware of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy?
In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.General Motors streetcar conspiracy

General Motors (GM) and related companies were convicted of monopolizing the sale of buses and supplies to National City Lines
(NCL) and subsidiaries, and are alleged to have conspired to own or control transit systems, in violation of Section 1 of the Sherman Antitrust Act. This suit created lingering suspicions that the defendants had in fact plotted to dismantle streetcar systems in many cities in the United States as an attempt to monopolize surface transportation.
