But Lindelof’s narrative thread of generational trauma in Watchmen makes me think we’ll get something similar here. Generational can be familial (like the Stewarts) or mentor/mentee (like Hal/Sinestro and Hal/John). 120

The ring goes to John Jr first in 1986, but as he’s an infant, then makes its way to Hal. John Sr does everything to prepare John Jr. And perhaps gets tired of waiting.
