Enjoying watching, or doing simulated, bad things creates the same mental karma within yourself. Though it doesn't necessarily cause you to do bad things outwardly, it conditions/habituates your mind to think in those terms, when deciding how to act. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effects...

In the Pāḷi Sutta Pitaka, you often see an older verse surrounded by a later prose frame, which tries to contextualise or interpret the verse, and is sometimes inconsistent with the verse (as in the Bāhiya Sutta). I view such prose frames as later commentaries. www.dhammatalks.org/suttas/KN/Ud...

To see how your existence is conditioned, ask yourself questions like 'Why am I not physically attracted to other species?' Because you've evolved and been socialised differently from them.

One way to see the nonsensicality of the Book of Genesis is to examine the fossil record of how humans lost our fur and developed clothing. It wasn't because we felt ashamed of nakedness. It was due to a migration between hot and cold environments over hundreds of thousands of years.

Slang words (like clock it, laser focused, etc) are a part of people constructing an identity. A new 'gen' of people (like all people) don't have an inherent identity, so they have to fabricate one out of novel uses of signs (icons, indexes, symbols, etc), which only insiders know.

There are two types of Buddhists: 1. Those attached to a certain tradition, who don't want to investigate whether Buddha actually said what is in their tradition's texts. 2. Those detached from traditions, who just want to know as accurately as possible what Buddha said. I am the latter type.

Two meditation paths to Nibbāna/Nirvāṇa, from the most archaic Pāḷi verses: 1. Abandon forms, attain the realm of nothingness, then abandon the perception of nothingness (Snp 5.6). 2. Abandon perception, see sensations as undifferentiated forms, then abandon forms (Snp 4.11, Ud 1.10 verse at end).
