I grew up seeing the lollipops of European COTY affixed to the rear windows of pretty tedious and undesirable cars, so no, not at all. Conversely an award from Autocar or Evo (and especially a podium in Evo's COTY) would definitely encourage me to buy.

I think a Lotus Esprit would work well with 500hp or so rotary. The limited torque would also let the Renault gearbox survive.

Yes, the first marshal arrives with a fire extinguisher at 47s. But then he gives it to Loek Hartog and runs away. My expectation would be that the marshals arrive in c. 30s, and at that point they suppress the fire and rescue the driver. Not leave that to another competitor, a la David Purley.

This was the best image I found, main thing is that all the accessories normally attached to the front of the engine are instead remote, driven by an extra driveshaft. Thus swapping in something like the Audi V6 would likely run out of room for all the extra bits in the engine bay.

The benefit today is that you roughly halve the carbon emissions www.volvocars.com/assets/volvo... Society is also 'switching tracks' from a technology where further carbon reductions are incremental to one where (with electric mining equipment and more renewable generation) it'll fall quickly.

The other thing on CO2 emissions is that, if existing trends continue, your household's emissions are likely to reduce further in the coming decade - even assuming no further changes in your tech or energy usage. So genuinely 'future-proof' in that regard.

Mazda prototype V12 engine with five-speed manual gearboxThe prototype Mazda V12 engine in their museumIdeal V12 engine aimed for overwhelming performance
With a displacement of 4,000cc, this prototype V12 engine was developed for the new type of high-performance, high quality flagship sedan in the early 1990s. Developing a 12-cylinder engine was a big undertaking for Mazda, which had only handled engines with up to six cylinders until then. The basic structure was unconventional; it connected two V6 engines. The development team endeavoured to create an engine whose performance would overwhelm the world's luxury sedans, which were seen as rivals, from first acceleration to high-speed driving. Development of the new sedan was canceled due to economic recession, leaving the dream not fully realised, but it remains carefully preserved as proof of Mazda's challenger spirit.

So.. there are a few places where major roads go over mountains, where you get overtaking lanes to pass slower vehicles, so two lanes up one lane down. In this case the total road width approaches that in Microsoftland. However IRL these are very much the exception.
