Today’s white hot choc at a local café was very photogenic.

@quicheindustries I heard you like customisation. This isn’t even the main new thing in the next update. I’m very excited. 😁 Shimmer Browser becomes a real browser this weekend.
A sneak peek of Shimmer Browser sidebar button customisation, showing Back and Forward.

Silly me, thinking it was broken at larger text sizes. Apple can be very consistent when they want to be, and would never let things break only when accessibility is enabled.
The “larger text” page’s explanation text gets cut off when the Settings sidebar is shown.

When you want to test how your app looks at accessibility sizes, and you realise Apple hasn’t put in the work on the very page you enable them. 🫠

It’s been said that visionOS inspired Liquid Glass, but I’ve not heard it mentioned that watchOS may have inspired the toolbars.

One overlooked feature of the redesign is that, if there’s no toolbar buttons in the leading position, large titles will display aligned to the top of the screen/toolbar! No more awkward gaps. More visible content upfront.
An example showing the new Podcasts app.

When you realise every app in iPadOS 26 now automatically gets an App menu with a “Settings…” option, like on macOS, and that this automatically deep links straight to that app’s panel in Settings…
For some reason this includes the Settings app, which has a menu item titled “Settings Settings…”

Oh yeah, and unsaved tabs look like app clips now. Yes, I’m taking a common UI pattern and giving it a highly obscure metaphor. This is why I’m not a designer. But it looks so goood, doesn’t it? 😄

Here’s a sneak peek of Shimmer Browser v3! Shimmer Browser’s current design stems from when it was just a set of icons and a SafariVC. It’s now a full browser with its own UX, while staying true to its goal of being a focus browser. I’ve also made a few […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

It’s finally time to head back from my month in Japan! It’s been quite an adventure, I’ve seen so much of the country and gotten to experience more of what everyday life here is like, visiting Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Shirakawago, Takayama, and Fukuoka. I’m […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

Here’s a sneak peak of the *prototype* tab focus feature I’m working on for Shimmer Browser! ✨ The design of this panel is subject to change. When enabled, the app will record when you open a tab, and if you’ve opened it X times in the last X hours, it’ll […] [Original post on mastodon.social]
A new focus options panel can be accessed from the context menu of tabs in the Shimmer Browser app. When opened, you can either set the tab to “Always allow”, or choose to allow X sessions within a given time period, from a preset selection of time interval options, from minutes up to 10 hours, or a calendar day option to reset at midnight instead.

Did you know you can search the menu bar commands of any app on macOS? Command question-mark, or command shift slash (⌘? or ⌘⇧/) is one of the most underutilised macOS features I know of! This also exists on iPadOS.
In macOS, typing into the search box at the top of the Help menu will search the menubar! Press down arrow to navigate between items, and while results are highlighted, the actual menu item will unfold itself from the menu bar, revealing the path to find it. Pressing return will trigger the menu item action.
