Jelly fish are killing salmon in farms right now en masse in Ireland and Norway. The sea's are warming and it's only a question of time before salmon farming just isn't feasible. www.rte.ie/radio/radio1...
Invasion of the Jelly Fish
Clip • 16 Mins • 09 NOV • CountryWide
We got news on Countrywide this week of a very large fish kill in a Salmon Farm in Donegal – that was caused by an inundation of Jellyfish.

Then separately we got more jellyfish related news at completely the other end of the country from Donegal.

Manufacturing feed for global aquaculture has a far greater impact on #MarineLife and land use than we’ve been led to believe. In my first scientific paper, we reassess these impacts: 🌏🧵 w/ Jennifer Jacquet, Patricia Majluf, & @matthewhayek.bsky.social open access: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Recently out in Science Advances, we compiled and reviewed the evidence surrounding pathogens from salmon aquaculture and their risk to wild Pacific salmon in British Columbia. We highlight pathogen impacts in relation to climate change, evolution & management 🧪🐡🌎🐠 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
Paneled figure depicting a) the probability of a viral pathogen PRV detection in Atlantic salmon on salmon farms reaching nearly 100% the longer fish were on farm conditions b) the proportion of PRV positive chinook salmon in relation to distance to an active aquaculture site with PRV fish being more likely to detect closer to aquaculture and c) the global transmission of PRV from Norway and Iceland to British Columbia and Chile.

If only we could find politicians who said "no more extinctions" & meant it. There are 109 salmon farm jobs in Macquarie Harbour - the last refuge of the maugean skate. All three companies operating these farms are foreign-owned. #auspol www.abc.net.au/news/science...

Researchers say Tanya Plibersek's pledge of no new extinctions is under serious threat as the only known population of an endangered ancient Tasmania ray continues to nosedive.
