Joyce Ride, the mother of pioneering astronaut Sally Ride, has passed away at the age of 102 in Claremont, CA. Joyce championed progressive causes throughout her long life. In particular, she worked with the group Friends Outside to advocate for justice for incarcerated women. buff.ly/VndP0TO

NASA has announced its 2025 Astronaut Candidate Class. The 10 candidates, selected from 8,000 applicants, include 6 women, making this the 1st astronaut class in which women outnumber men. The candidates must complete 2 years of training to be eligible for mission assignments. tinyurl.com/yksptht6

#BlackHistoryMonth Long before Guy Bluford became 1st African American person in space in 1983, Robert H Lawrence Jr. became the 1st Black astronaut chosen by a national space program. In 1967 he was picked for Air Force Manned Orbiting Laboratory (MOL), but he died in a jet crash. buff.ly/eVFRlLO
