about four years worth of work is coming out this week (Good Devils with @nickdragotta.bsky.social), in three weeks (Perfect Crime Party with @sallataire.bsky.social), and around the end of the month (All Negro Comics, edited by @chrisrobinson.info). funny timing. getting it all out the way I guess.

My most recent long video is a chat with @sallataire.bsky.social about three shojo comics that taught her a lot about storytelling: Moto Hagio's A Cruel God Reigns, Kentaro Miura's Berserk, and Akimi Yoshida's Banana Fish. An hour! Talking comics is the best of times. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTsW...

I'm in this with the homie @sallataire.bsky.social! There's tons of other cool teams, each doing their own short riff on the perfect crime. This is going to be very fun and probably VERY psychologically revealing, so jump on board.

You should check this out. I like Alissa's stuff a lot. We're working together on the Perfect Crime Party anthology, but she's at her most powerful as a pure cartoonist:

I had a long conversation about storytelling this weekend. A friend pointed out these panels from Akimi Yoshida's Banana Fish v8 as a real cool example of the strength of abstraction. Eiji's basically going D: and :D, and our minds add real feeling/detail. Creator/reader collaboration via simplicity

Akimi Yoshida's Banana Fish volume 8. Eiji and Ash have a conversation about a girl that Ash once loved, and Eiji reacts with both surprise and glee at the revelations. Ash brings him down to earth with the flat statement that his girlfriend died before anything happened.

just finished WEEABOO by @sallataire.bsky.social and damn did it make me nostalgic for my days of absolute anime nerddom in high school. i miss trading volumes of Death Note and DNAngel across the lunch table! and planning cosplay i never actually did!

[image: the cover of WEEABOO by Alissa Sallah. the illustration shows three teenagers: a white person eating pocky, a Black girl in a lolita dress, and a mixed-race boy wearing headphones. below them is an anime-style reflection showing each teen as a counterpart character: a prince, a princess, and a mage.]

I know Alissa Sallah and her work already, but even if I didn't, the utterly wretched figure on IRON's cover being cradled by a dark knight and the costuming/pace of the preview would've locked me in. I like the colors on the cover too. www.shortboxcomicsfair.com/shop/p/iron-...
