Paragraph from a news story. It reads, ‘Photos released by Saint Peter for Humanity captured the pope receiving the "Sphere of Humanity" — a green, Murano glass sculpture that "incorporates handwritten passages from his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, reflecting on human dignity, vulnerability, solidarity, conscience and the challenges posed by artificial intelligence" — during his General Audience in early September.’

In addition to my robust clematis, I also have a nice clump of spiderwort that’s thrived over the years, even in years when I’ve neglected the yard. (If I’m not mistaken, this is the Virginia spiderwort, Tradescantia virginiana, which is native in many Eastern and Central states, including KY.)
Ten flowers, light purple in color, with 3 petals and 6 bright yellow anthers in the center.Close up of a spiderwort blossom. It is light purple in color, with 3 petals and 6 bright yellow anthers in the center. There is dense green foliage in the background.

Both vines are robust. One has 3 blossoms. (They are angled in a way that makes them hard to photograph without lying down in the wet grass. Here’s one of them, awkwardly.)

I occasionally mention on here that I’m part of a (very tiny Lutheran [ELCA]) congregation. We do “dinner church.” I have to share with you this text exchange I had today with someone who’s dropped in a few times:
Text conversation:
Them: Because cleaning up tonight was so cool.
Me: Absolutely!
Them: Everyone brought their dishes to the kitchen. We all put the dishes away from the dishwasher. It was sort of beautiful in a strange way.
Me: That’s the way we wanted things to be when we were first starting dinner church. Community eating and working together. More text exchange:
Them: I enjoyed it. Got to joke with people. Can see why you did it that way.
Me: I’m glad you see the value of it.
Them: it gives me a sense of togetherness that feels great
Me: Hearing that makes me so happy!

More Proof of Lichen. I love the yellow color.
Lichen, again growing on a grey rock. There are spots of bright orange and a darker orange around the edges of the image. At the center are three groups of yellow lichen. It’s a bright yellow, maybe describable as mustard yellow.

A view of a desert landscape. Very light brown gravelly ground in the foreground. A line of black rocks in the mid distance. Deep blue sky at the top. Separating earth and sky are barely visible distant snow-capped mountains and a line of blue, which is a large lake reflecting the blue of the sky.

† Dogwood Scrubs is a nickname for the family home, alluding to the dogwood tree which is a prominent feature of the front yard, but also making a sly nod to the name of a notorious prison in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (built 1875–1891, and still in use).

I hate to quibble, but pictures of Allied troops on D-Day are not the best illustration of the idea of Antifa. If we thought many people could recognize pictures of the Lincoln Brigade, those would be better.
A group of people dressed appropriately for partisan fighting is gathered around a flag that is black with white lettering and the silhouette of a machine gun. The lettering reads, “Tom Mooney Company, Lincoln Battalion.”
