I got "Olivia in Magenta" framed in a better one for this drawing. It felt really crowded in the smaller frame. I got a white matte and frame to allow the eye line to burst out of the frame. It is ready for a collector to add to their wall. #saholartist

Is it perfect? No. Am I done working on it? Yes. For my first large watercolor portrait, and a new technique, it's better than I thought it would be. It's not what I had imagined, but it's better than I hoped. #saholtartist

Here's today's progress on the watercolor portrait. It's getting better. I'm not going to do much more on the face because I don't want to overwork it. I'm getting happier with it! #saholtartist

Quiches and Pies in Chandler. These are the best I've had since I was in France. Hubby said it's the best quiche/eggs he's ever had. He had the Smokey Blue. I had the chocolate croissant, the zesty bun with orange zest & cinnamon, and the pumpkin roll. All of it perfection! www.quichesandpies.com

I'm still working on this portrait of a friend from a workshop I took a couple weeks ago. I see where I need to stop, and other areas that need more attention. It's hard learning something new, but I'm not giving up. #saholtartist #wip

I framed these two sketches from life drawing at the Arizona Artists Guild. A friend and fellow artist suggested I frame these two sketches as a pair of the same model. #saholtartist

I'm in the portrait class working on my portrait. I'm learning a lot, and taking a break for my paper to dry. I'm going to play. I make better art when I play. #saholtartist

I chose this photo of a freind for my portrait for the AAG Workshop this weekend. This is my preliminary pencil sketch. I'll have to refine it tomorrow. I know it looks weird as I have my highlights and shadows generally sketched in. I hope I do her justice. ❤️ #saholtartist

I put this drawing into a frame today. The paper is delicate, so I wanted it protected. It needs a matte board and a larger frame. That'll have to wait until I can get to an art supply store. #saholtartist

Today I got 3 paintings framed, forms and paperwork filled out and submitted for the gallery show at Walter Studios in downtown Phoenix. I have to photograph the 3 I framed later today and pack them with the other paintings to be delivered. I'm excited about this show! #saholtartist

This is my 20 minute portrait of our model from last week at AAG. I added the green over the past couple of days. I took inspiration from one of the colors in her silky robe. #saholtartist #portrait #geometric #drawing

Last week during life drawing, I used my charcoal pencils to create a portrait of our model, Norm. This week, I created a repeating geometric design to accompany his portrait. I used grey, blues, and greens to offset the black and white portrait. #saholtartist #portrait #lifedrawing

Susan Holt @saholtstudios.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

I added some of my original geometric designs on this colored pencil drawing I started a couple months ago up at the Arizona Artists Guild. I admit, I love the very structured geometric designs with the organic forms of the human body. Do you love it, too? #saholtartist

Today I'm working on this mixed media piece from the long pose life drawing at AAG a couple weeks ago. I added colored pencil to define some sections on her, and in the purple background to give it a dynamic geometric design. Stay tuned! #saholtartist

I finally added a background to my colored pencil drawing from one of the AAG long pose life drawing sessions. I've been meaning to do this for a couple of months now. It connects her to the space, and gives the bright colors validity, as if they could be her actual skin tones. #saholtartist
