#WriteSky #WIPSnips Now that Katya was safe, Ruslan ached to see his own father before the end. He wanted to hold his mother in his arms and weep for Baruk, he wanted Siska to see Salabey before the summer heat set in and it was invaded by mosquitoes. He wanted to go home.

#WIPsnips He was almost at the door when it was flung open. Adrenaline and instinct saved him. With a cry of panic and a blow that would have had his fencing master howling with disapproval, Ruslan hit not his assailant, but their musket. The weapon fired uselessly into the ceiling.

He’d been able to deal with being a girl, when he’d absolutely had to. He was fairly fucking certain he wasn’t ever going to be able to deal with being a woman.

*Ain’t going to have to, though. The priests said they’d take me when I’m old enough, and it ain’t even as though they charge you for it.*

And if, by some twist of fate, that didn’t happen? If the Navy came in, and the temple burned, and there was nowhere he could go before it all turned into too much to bear?

*Then I’ll take my blade and go down to the harbour and let Ocean Brother take my soul to Twilight Sister’s arms rather than live one more day as something I ain’t ever going to be.*

It’d always been the plan, ever since he’d realised he’d need to go to the temple to ever have a body he was comfortable living in. Just this time, it’d be a different harbour.

*Same sea, though. Always the same sea.*

Had a great time at Fantasycon. Came home, made it through one day of work, pulled my back by coughing in the wrong position (?), failed to sleep it off. Had to call in sick because I could not physically bend in a way that allowed me to put socks on. From the sublime to the ridiculous.
