The Bulldoze Nature Bill is a sweeping bill that could have devastating consequences on the nature we love, the people we care about, and the future we all deserve. But people from coast to coast aren’t having it. #Canada #GreenSky

It was a pleasure participating in the @safewingsottawa.bsky.social Annual Bird Display, sharing information about Bird Friendly Ottawa, which we’ve been collaborating on with various ecology-minded friends.
Photo of six people behind a table filled with informational literature about birds to share. Photo of several hundred dead birds laid out in a display on a floor in a large room, with several people looking at them.

As always, the display of birds killed by building strikes and collected by @safewingsottawa.bsky.social is a sobering reminder of how much more we can do as a city and society to prevent bird deaths. More info, including a petition: birdfriendlyottawa.ca. #OttBird #Birds #BirdProtection

Happy 7 year anniversary to the time I rescued a downy woodpecker from the middle of the road at Rideau and Sussex after she slammed into a window. The person I asked to get a paper bag while I held her in my hands probably thought I was bonkers. But she lived thanks to @safewingsottawa.bsky.social

All new Safe Wings volunteers are invited to attend a general orientation presented via Zoom. You need only attend one session. As we near the end of the fall migration, we may not offer any more sessions this year. New dates will be set next spring. (February-March 2026)

✨ A Rare Admission! ✨ Some species are surprisingly uncommon in our care—even when they’re common in the wild. The ruffed grouse is one of them. Window collisions are often fatal for these birds, which means we rarely have the chance to help one recover. The last one we admitted was back in 2022!

Update: unfortunately we found out that the sweet little chimney swift had suffered critical injuries from a collision and passed away. Received a very nice note from the folks at the Wildbird center, and that they did everything they could, but to no avail. Sigh. @safewingsottawa.bsky.social

Have you ever seen something so cute?! Please do NOT feed or give water to baby birds as good intentions can turn lethal with nestlings choking on food or drowning from water not properly administered. Learn more: safewings.ca/found-a-bird/ & www.wildbirdcarecentre.org/bird-emergency
