time and flexibility are definitely under discussed e.g.: the whole kids can't go outside/be left home unsupervised until much older has drastically increased parental demand (perceived and actual) we went from "kids are a big change" to "kids will suck every waking minute"

to be maximally charitable to the argument 'afford' isn't just money, it's money, time, housing (what and where), etc, with the feeling that those will not get eroded from my own cohort i heard about hope being a big issue (dying planet, decaying social norms, etc)
