iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Honorable Mention: Somewhere Far Beyond by Blind Guardian. Holy Diver won the mental coinflip there I guess.

There is something very me about the earliest album on this list being the one I listened to for the first time most recently

This feels right I think?

My 9 Albums

Dance or Die - Family Force 5
Black Holes and Revelations - Muse
Sonic Firestorm - DragonForce
Rust in Peace - Megadeth
A View from the End of the World - Machinae Supremacy
Holy Diver - Dio
Prequelle - Ghost
Together Through Time - TWRP
Moving Pictures - Rush

Didn't think of it when I originally posted this but I realized driving home from Dairy Queen that this game also probably had a pretty meaningful part in getting me into pro wrestling

Need to figure out how to make my perish team not auto-lose to Ychu/Dengo

Doubling into an Incineroar Protect has to be *incredibly* demoralizing

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: Get my opponent to forfeit against Perish Trap on the 2nd turn of the battle

9. Despite how much Pokémon keeps showing up on this list, I never really gave VGC a fair shake until Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. And given the fact that I actually have something vaguely resembling a social life outside the internet now because of VGC, I had to include it.

8. Pokémon HeartGold is the first video game where I willingly and deliberately chose to play as the girl instead of the boy. I still hadn't quite figured the whole gender thing out.

100

7. I don't really listen to much of the specific songs/bands from Guitar Hero 3 anymore, but it definitely introduced me to the musical styles that would largely shape my musical tastes.

100

6. Final Fantasy VI. I struggle to put anything about that game into words other than that Terra and Celes transed my gender a little bit (though it still took me a few years to figure that one out).

100

5. Sonic Adventure DX is mostly here because of the extent to which it had an influence on my musical tastes (we'll circle back to that one in a little bit).

100

4. Golden Sun: The Lost Age is one of the two games most responsible for shaping my early internet experience because I joined a few online communities about it. The small handful of people I'm still in contact with are still some of my best friends.

3. A Link to the Past is still the game I would consider to be my favorite game of all time. GBA version listed here even though I prefer SNES because GBA was what I played first.

100

2. Similarly, Pokémon Blue was the first non-Mario video game that took over my life in a way that only Mario had succeeded in up to that point. It also set up several of the other games on this list (not just the Pokémon ones).

100

1. Super Mario Bros. was the very first video game I ever remember playing, and video games have always been a big enough thing in my life that I can't really make a list like this without mentioning it.

A Brief History of My Life Cleverly Disguised As That Nine Games Meme

4. Golden Sun: The Lost Age
5. Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut
6. Final Fantasy VI Advance
7. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
8. Pokémon HeartGold
9. Pokémon Scarlet/Violet

My secret Third Mega: Leftovers Archaludon

Ladder Game Archaludon/Rillaboom vs. Salamence/Milotic T1 Rilla switches out to Politoed, Mence Megas, Milo Protects, Mence Hyper Voices for chip, Arch Electro Shots into Milo Protect T2 Poli Protects, Mence Flamethrowers Arch for chip, Arch DELETES Milo with +2 Electro Shot Opponent forfeits

to be fair I won all three games I've brought Golisopod to this weekend so far (one in the GC, two in a local yesterday)

I think my big problem with Golisopod is you have to play very slowly and carefully to outmaneuver your opponent and my normal playstyle is very "click the big explosion button"

Sael @saelnaha.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

Fortunately you're allowed to do that! In SV you needed a team locked in before the tournament starts

Sael @saelnaha.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

idk how much of the Global Challenge I'm actually gonna play but I'm currently sitting at 3-1 with Perish Trap (+Golisopod but I haven't brought it to any games yet)

I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽‍♀️

My musical tastes would probably not exist if they hadn’t put Through The Fire and Flames in GH3
