I played Mario Galaxy 2 a bit yesterday, the issues mentioned in the video are very obvious. Most of the time the resolution bump show how amazing the art direction was (and is) for this game ! The reworked textures help too, but don't feel out of place.

Performing the mod: - removing the original connector from the RF shield - removing a few RF components to make room - filing the jack socket to fit the Famicom shell - installing it in a clean way

Since the console is mono anyway, I could get away with using a stereo jack: one pole for audio, the other one for video. That way, any stereo audio cable would do the job, instead of looking for some cumbersome AV jack cable.

After looking around, I found that most guides / tutorials ended up with an ugly mod, often with cables dangling out of the console. Not what I want. So I got the idea to use a mini jack socket to achieve the clean look I wanted. It would replace the one RCA connector, and provide a stock look.

At that point, I started looking for basic mods to get a better image quality, but more importantly, an easier way to connect it to my TV. Turns out you can do composite mods for dirt cheap, and fully reversible! Best image quality or even good quality is not the target. Ease of use is.

I got curious as to whether it was functional. I had a PS2 slim power supply, a game, the means to make a RCA to coax cable, and an CRT, so I figured I might as well try and see if it worked! After much finagling, I managed to get a picture. Not much, but enough to confirm that it WAS working!

I recently randomly bought a Famicom. Never owned one, but it was on the cheap and sold as parts (working state: unknown). It was dirty / sticky as hell, so a good scrubbing was absolutely necessary. It's very yellowed, but who cares.
