The new used monitor arrived. I was not prepared for just how oversized it is. It was the only one in my price range—the smaller ones cost hundreds more. It's beautiful, matte, dims much more than any other monitor I have. My eyes (while in the migraine glasses) aren't in pain from it.

My twin brought me home a make-your-own candy sushi kit. I was a bit overwhelmed, but it's pretty easy. Making the "roe" was my fav. The "rice" tastes like bubblegum and the "soy sauce" like lychee, which I love.

The pink polymer clay was really difficult to work with, so I baked it and sanded the gums into place instead. I'm not sure I enjoy working small. It's probably faster, but it's so finicky + hard to reach places, it definitely feels longer. #art #sculpting #polymerclay

I dunno. Been wanting to sculpt something with teeth. Don't know what it's going to be just yet, but it has an overbite. It's the cheap polymer clay, both super sticky but won't stick to the cured teeth. I should probably find the liquid sculpey to fix that... #art #sculpting #tinymonster

Quick mockup to see if this #quilting collage leaves background is going to work with the caterpillars. I'm hoping once I stuff the caterpillar + and use a satin stitch around its final form, it won't get lost in the background. In general, I like it. I just wish I had more green fabric options.

Today's collage #quilting leaf attempt. I realized too late that it's better to start from the middle and move towards the edges of the fabric to prevent the thread getting stuck in the zigzag stitch. I also used a straight stitch first to tack the fabric in place, then cover w/ the zigzag.

Took some Advil and tried another collage #quilting leaf. It's nicer the more I fine tune the zigzag stitch. I drew lines to follow + created a template, making it more precise. I like the first, but I like the idea of discoloration from insect bites on the second better as a creative approach.

Okay, decided on larger leaves to contrast w/ the small segments of the caterpillars. I think this is a success, even if I'm not too skilled w/ the zigzag stitch just yet. Have a splitting headache forming behind my left eye, so this might be it for piecing this #quilting collage today.

Looking up collage #quilting reference of leaves on Pinterest to see where I might go with this caterpillar bag. The tomato surprised me - maybe a garden theme? A lot of these are absolutely gorgeous, but I'm worried about balancing detail with the background.

Current palette landing point before bed. I think the caterpillars will stand out on the green well, these greens can be collaged into leaves, and the butterfly fabric pulls a lot of the colors together and lightens everything for a background. We'll see. I don't even have a pattern for this bag. 🫩

Other fabric options for the collage #quilting. The overwhelm is growing. Maybe collaging in the background is too much? I have so many patterned fabrics, very busy looking. If I pick a simple bg + put the caterpillars on it, maybe I'll start brainstorming from there w/ other collage elements...

I'm thinking green leaves but none of this is the right color. I don't know how to explain just how difficult the color green is for me. Needing to find green fabrics that work in a #quilting collage feels impossible. I have a chartreuse w/ cups that might be fun. Thinking stripey leaves...

The plan is to stuff each segment, sew them down + outline with a colorful tight zigzag. I #embroidered each caterpillar segment to hopefully match whatever #quilting I do on the background, which still needs to be designed. There's still a lot to figure out, but I feel like I'm on the right path.

After some thought, I decided to free motion #embroidery these segments of caterpillar onto muslin before moving forward. I used an ivory thread, nothing fancy, to get used to the motions. Thinking of adding a satin/zigzag stitch outline around each, but it might need hand embroidery.

Thought I might try scraps of Wrap-N-Zap to create a more puffy look, but I think it's too thick. I cut all these pieces to exact size, assuming to quilt over w/o any seam work. But if I use muslin or something colorful for a back fabric, I could make little puffy pocket segments... maybe? #quilting

I'm particularly fond of the meow caterpillar. I wish I had more fabric that had words on it. I love the variety of paper collage. It's difficult for me to find text on fabric the same way. Thinking of the leaf type I want in the background and how to collage them. #quilting

Definitely caterpillar like. The pose isn't set cuz I don't have a final design atm. It's not as elaborate as the collage #quilting I've seen, but it has that feel, imo. Tired. My weekend was eclipsed by errands + fatigue. Didn't get any work done on the website - it has to get done.

Squee! This could work! It's totally a caterpillar and I haven't even rounded the sides, embroidered feet, or given it a head. ✨ Also thinking of stitching beads/sequins on it, fabric circles, etc, but I'm definitely getting ahead of myself. #sewing #crafting

It's probably completely unrealistic given my low energy levels atm... But I could cut this fabric made of strips up into caterpillars to then put on a different background. I could do segments of 3 colors repeated + embroider the feet. It would be a fun project... But I'm really tired lately.

Pasted these strips of scrap fabric down on watersolube stabilizer. Don't have the strength to sew just yet, but I'm wondering if my approach has ruined the ability to have the edges stay fluffy. If I sew vertical lines over the edges, the floof is going to flatten. #sewing

Funny the optical illusions of color. There are 3 different hues of white embroidered here (pink, neutral and green) which can be discerned against the julep, but completely washes out against the bright chartreuse. The pink-white will disappear once the slices are filled. #embroidery #colortheory

I'm surprised by how much I enjoy the texture of the chain stitch. Yes, I was interested in it because it seemed faster + more economic than satin stitch, but it really is visually interesting. Got a long ways to go. 🙃 #embroidery

Apparently there are working treatments for dysautonomia, not just diagnosis and "how to deal with a broken nervous system". Also, calming these reactions might also calm the MCAS, which was why I was thinking about it. I didn't realize some of the dysautonomia meds are mast cell stabilizers!
