Having a great time at Comic Con Málaga today! Thank you @johnromero.bsky.social for being so attentive and giving such great advice for me to pass along to my gamedev masters degree classmates.

17. The Silent Age A short but intensely satisfying experience told through time-travel puzzles, cleverly weaving a story that wraps into itself in typical fashion, but comendably without using any exposition or indeed words.

I highlighted the quote about the Eorzea Café in this interview, because I was also that excited when I went. Here is the quote in its full context:

Interviewer: In your acceptance speech after winning Game of The Year, you extended thanks to Hironobu Sakaguchi. Could you tell me more about why you decided to thank him specifically?

Guillaume Broche: Because I see him as the original man behind Final Fantasy, which very obviously inspired me. It’s the series that really made me fall in love with video games. And I’ve played literally all of them. It’s one of, or maybe the most influential series in my life. I know all the characters by heart, and I know all the music by heart. The Final Fantasy soundtracks are probably the soundtracks I’ve listened to the most in my entire life. Simply, it’s a universe I’ve been living in ever since I was little, and it’s the only one that has so strongly ingrained itself in me.

We went to Akihabara yesterday and the day before. There was a Final Fantasy Eorzea Cafe, and I was literally like a kid going, “This is so cool!” (laughs). It’s so important to me that I just thought it would be right to thank the person that allowed us to ship the game through their influence.

16. Blue Prince You have to have a lot of patience to put up with the RNG and potential time-wasting to get to the excellent puzzles and mysterious backstory. If you have that plus a love for note-taking, it's a rewarding experience. I especially enjoyed the word games and thrill of discovery.

Did the Final Fantasy Resonance character designator for a laugh hoping to be read to filth, ended up being forced to face my mortality. ff-resonance.vercel.app
Your FF Soul Type: Zack Fair (from Final Fantasy VII). 95 resonance score.
Help me make my dreams come true too.
You are someone who keeps living inside someone else even after you are gone.
You demonstrate what it means to fulfill a dream - not through words, but through how you live.
Carrying a SOLDIER's pride, you face forward no matter what.
Entrusting your dream to a companion, handing it over with all its weight into the future - that is your form of love.
Like a name that lives on in someone else's memory, your light will keep illuminating someone else's future.
Your hidden Inner Self: Selphie Tilmitt (from Final Fantasy VIII)
There was a time you chased joy with everything to avoid thinking too deeply. Beneath that brightness lives a stillness no one has seen. The summon within your soul: Ifrit. 96 resonance score.
The force that answered Zack Fair's soul was Infrit.
A being that ignites your dormant fighting spirit and unleashes it through pure instinct. It teaches that moving by emotion rather than reason is not shame but power. AAs long as that flame never dies, you can rise again.
For a soul like Zack Fair's, this power resonates the deepest.

A story of a man who lived more earnestly than anyone, guided by dreams and vows.

Gotta love how Hades II keeps getting new game modes, first official ones and now with this awesome mod! Was a bit finicky getting it to work on Steam Deck with both games downloaded from different stores, so I got some visual errors, but it was super fun to play!

Difficult to choose just 9, but I can say with certainty that these are all games that had a very strong before and after effect on me. Even the very recent ones!
Games included are Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, Psychonauts, Broken Age, Final Fantasy IX, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Control, Hades II, To the Moon and Bioshock Infinite.

Day 16: Favourite Summon / Spell I love how summons in FFXV affected surroundings, eg. vegetation charred by Ramuh, or Noctis violently shaking with cold when summoning Shiva. My favourite is how Shiva's animation (and Noctis' reaction) changes in the final Act of the game, espcially against Ifrit.

After combing every inch of the Continent, the last thing left for me to do in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was to go back to the beginning for an encounter that I missed the first time round. Absolutely loved every bit of the game from beginning to end. #Expedition33

In case it helps anyone who's unaware, there is how google shows up for me when I search for something in the task bar, with no AI overview. On PC I use the Mozilla Firefox extension udm14. On mobile, I make the default search (also with Firefox) google.com/search?q=%s&..., which works the same.
Screenshot of results from googling the words block ai from searches. The URL shows that the results were show as if the code that disables google's widgets had been added to the search, which is why it doesn't show AI Overview. The code is &udm=14

Aw, glad you liked this story :D
Sabrina tells us of getting the nephews into Double Fine games:

"I'm grateful for the time I've spent sharing your mind-expanding creations with my nephews. It started with Broken Age when they were very little - the way they were enthralled by the game's humour, scares, twists, mysteries, characters and puzzles was unlike anything I'd ever seen in them before. I shared the story on the DF forums and was glad to see Tim get a kick out of it. Psychonauts was also a success and we're currently on Psychonauts 2, which they like even more."

Being a 25 year old developer carries with it a legacy both proud and daunting, but one of the biggest joys is when we find our games getting introduced to a new generation by those that played them years ago. Even if it is also a devastating reminder of time's inexorable passage. If you, right now, introduced the game to two young relatives, and they did the same thing in 20 years and so on, within just 500 years you would have been personally responsible for the creation of over 134 million fans. So what are you waiting for?

15. Day of the Tentacle Remastered 2D point and click. Play as three characters that get stranded each in a different time period to save history from alien invasion. A colourful and zany cartoon adventure that has perhaps the cleverest, funniest and most well thought-out puzzles of them all.

14. Technobabylon 2D pixelart point and click, another of Wadjet Eye's many great ones. A fun cyberpunk story with a well-realised setting, interesting characters, an engaging story, and a good breadth of clever puzzles that feel part of the story-telling rather than a roadblock to it.

13. The Cave 3D side-scrolling platformer. Humorous and imaginative as you'd expect from Double Fine and Ron Gilbert, with an Edward Gorey-like dark twist. Choose 3 characters from a cast of 7 and use their unique abilities to make your way through their backstories to their nefarious ends.

11. Grim Fandango Remastered 3D point and click. One of the most stylish and best-written games ever made: based on mythology surrounding Dia de los Muertos, the characters, dialogue and music drip with noir atmosphere, but it's also full of wickedly smart humour that extends to its puzzles.

8. Fran Bow A 2D point and click adventure where the lines between nightmare, fantasy and reality blur, yet the experience is authentic, memorable and gives a lot to ponder.
