Happy birthday! Don't have a new one tonight, but here's one from the archive from doing baseball pics with the kids.

Got a homecoming barn burner here in Des Moines between Des Moines Roosevelt and Council Bluffs Lincoln tonight! In the 3rd quarter, the Riders lead 2-0! 😂💙

Still sad that my baseball season ended last night. The 40+ team I started from scratch 2 years ago finally got our first win this year. We've improved every year. My pitching season ended early with tendinitis in my right elbow, but I was hitting really well in the last couple of weeks.

We played a game vs Team USA Deaf Baseball in June at the field built for the canceled Field of Dreams TV series against Team USA Deaf Baseball. Beautiful setting, though anything that got past the outfield ended up a ground rule doubles.

81 years ago today, the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. My grandfather, James Church, had a small part to play in the development of the bomb as one of the 1st 100 scientists on the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos as a plastics chemist. #nuclearlegacy #hiroshima #losalamos

Pictured are a Valentine's letter he wrote to my grandma on Manhattan Project stationary (signed as their family dog), a photo of James Church, his Technical Sergeant insignia, and my piece of trinitite that he collected at the Trinity Test and encased in plastic.

Baby's first blood donation! Ethan was a blood recipient before he was 24 hours old. I'm so thankful that one of the first things he wanted to do after turning 16 was to give back. #proudblooddonor

It is wild. There were 3-4 rounds of thunderstorms overnight. With all of the heat and humidity this week, there was a ton of moisture in the air. Last time we had this much rain in a single storm was almost exactly 8 years ago on July 1, 2018. This is the creek gauge just north of us right now.

NWS flood gauge on Fourmile Creek at Des Moines Easton Blvd on July 3, 2026 showing a rapid spike after 4-9 inches of rain overnight.

Yikes! You must be a magnet for them. I need to get up there to a game again. The Kernels do a really good job with the game day experience. Last time I was at a game there was 2016 when this happened. 😂

Go 'Topes! That's a fun ballpark too. We were there 3 years ago and, after the game, my kids managed to get on the field by mixing in with the 'Topes' families. Next thing I knew, they were on the field taking pictures with the players and their families. 😂

It is absolutely bananas that one person in Iowa has a net worth in excess of the average annual income of 150,000 people. I used to work for Stine Seed, and have nothing bad to say about Harry Stine, but it is a policy failure that this is even possible. www.desmoinesregister.com/story/money/...

Harry Stine is the richest person in the state, with a net worth of $9.9 billion, down from $10.2 billion in 2025, according to Forbes.
To put his net worth into perspective, the median household income in the Des Moines metro was $65,932 in 2024, meaning Stine's wealth is equal to the combined annual income of about 150,000 households.

Yeah. I live in Des Moines and actually got to throw out a first pitch there a couple years ago. It's one of those parks that I can understand why it's always at the bottom of the AAA park rankings every year. Unfortunately it's the only minor league ballpark I have regular access to.

The marching band directors for both of the schools in the upcoming national championship game are former CU Golden Buffalo Marching Band drum majors. Evidently the best way to ensure football success in the NIL era is to hire a GBMB alum to run your marching band. 😉 #ForeverBuffs 🦬
