Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Not really — US growth, for now, remains robust enough. That’s not to say the US doesn’t face serious financial risks. There are going to be some hard decisions to make down the line. 200
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 01/10/2026France’s anemic growth and increasing borrowing costs mean it’s very much at risk of entering a debt spiral. 100
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 27/09/2026I was thinking it would be cool to hide something like this on the Cortland Bridge. Straightforward hardware/software but power source might be a little tricky 001

Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Seems like the fare will be cost prohibitive for most airport/airline employees. Even if there’s a monthly pass or whatever, this is going to be a premium product. 010
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 23/07/2026It can even be switched over to headway management mode to show spacing instead of absolute adherence! With some new SOPs directing operators to, in certain situations, adjust departure times based on headways instead of schedules, I imagine there could be significant improvement 120
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 23/07/2026No doubt about that. Throwing more buses on the street without effective headway management is just burning money. We need headway management to get the most out of investments in scheduled service 120
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 23/07/2026In addition to bulbs, we should get yield indicators too, with automated enforcement to back it up 020
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Oh yeah, transfer protection is very important in that case I’m not really for shortening our cross-town routes given their importance to the network, but absent any infrastructure changes it could be a way to reduce costs and improve reliability 010
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 23/07/2026We need to reduce the volatility of runtimes This requires infrastructure — signals help, but dedicated lanes are crucial Or perhaps we consider that some of our routes are too long… 110
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Headway management improves service delivery and is worthwhile, but I wouldn’t frame it as a top-line cost saver. It’s service restoration in response to the volatility of run-times X9 and X49 reveal the limited benefits of stop consolidation — they aren’t all that much faster in practice 350
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 17/07/2026It’s interesting that he and the other “Businessman” guy Stanton are focusing a lot on CTA issues at a time when the Mayor of Chicago is losing formal power over the CTA, especially the power of appointing the President. 030

Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 24/05/2026I’m sure that’s true (it’s closer to 100% than 0%), but there are certain adaptations that are important for endurance running that can only be developed by practicing endurance running. You can get into really great shape with nothing but <=10 miles, but you won’t be marathon ready. 010
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 20/05/2026There is. You can’t develop the economy and durability for the marathon without the LR. Even Hanson, famously less LR-centric, calls for a 16 miler. You need >2hrs to “hit the wall.” Need to practice fueling. Doubles are great for increasing easy/recovery volume (when trying to break, say, 70mpw) 000
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 20/05/2026Absent weather considerations, I find that long runs on the tread can be uniquely challenging. It becomes boring in a way that outdoor running doesn’t, requiring more willpower to keep going. For that reason, it’s good training though. 010
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 20/05/2026It is bad, physiologically and mentally. The long run is non-negotiable and cannot be replaced with a split. *Continuous* time on feet is crucial for marathon training. You need to get used to running for hours. You need to experience glycogen depletion and practice fueling. 220
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 19/05/2026Impressive amount of volume, you’ll be in great shape for the race. Just gotta eat and sleep like crazy 010
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 19/05/2026Looks good overall but gotta say this one part is BS. “Long runs on treadmill are fine; split into two sessions same day if needed.” To split a long run into two short runs nearly defeats the purpose of a long run 340

Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 01/05/2026That’s not a 36 minute gap. It takes about 15 minutes to complete that time point segment. (15 minute gap still is not good) I believe the bot universally assumes a 10mph speed. It overstates gaps at express segments. 000
Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 28/04/2026Eh, in all fairness that’s more like a 10-15 minute gap, it’s almost entirely the LSD express segment. I think this bot assumes 10mph travel speed (which is reasonable for routes without express segments). 010

Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 19/03/2026This is such a crazy story. Daytripper1969 @rzod.bsky.social · 04/03/2026Data center water usage concerns are way overstated — proportional to overall usage it’s not much. It’s possible that a data center’s water usage is a strain at the local level, but unlikely. The Exxon refinery is probably using 1B+ gallons of water a year. Electricity usage is a bigger deal. 070

Bucktown (around Ashland/North) is more centrally located and well connected by CTA and UP-N/NW. Parts of West Town and Pilsen are similarly good too. 030
