Excited to see this special issue come together!!! 🎉🎉🎉 So many interesting papers exploring how GenAI is changing both the methods we use and the questions we ask in computational (communication) research - please check them all out!

(5/5) The discussion should not just focus on functionality or adoption. It should also focus on privacy and exposure management. If you're deploying 🦞, this is a good time to review your setup carefully: auth, secret handling, backup protection, and reducing public exposure.

(4/5) I also did an exploratory pass on the threat-actor linkage fields in the dataset and tried matching them against broader threat-intel references (with the list curated by MISP: misp-project.org).

(3/5) The hosting-provider side is also interesting. A lot of the observed infrastructure appears concentrated in a relatively small number of cloud providers.

(2/5) Breaking it down by country, China and the US stand out the most in absolute counts in this snapshot, with China ahead here. There is also a noticeable spike on the China side late in the observation window (like the setup event in Shenzhen last week: www.reuters.com/world/asia-p...).

(1/5) Newly instances ramp up quickly the past month, The red portion represents the share associated with leaked credentials, such as exposed configs, tokens, conversation history, linked services, and other sensitive data. 😬

Given all the #OpenClaw🦞 hype lately, I've been playing around with the Exposure Watchboard (02/03-03/11). It tracks publicly reachable active instances for defensive awareness (tho they didn’t disclose how did they collect the results), and a few patterns really stood out to me👇

"So, how Global does my paper need to be? We get this a lot, and the short answer is that "if it's from the Globe we call home, it's interesting to GPC." Our focus on Global is less about a narrow view on work from specific regions but more a recognition that journals need truly Global engagement!

This highlights why where matters in information/communication policy and why spatial context is essential for both understanding and modeling digital inequality. First presented back in TPRC 2022… great to finally see it out! Full article here: authors.elsevier.com/a/1lFhq98SH2...

Using Bayesian spatial modeling and hotspot analysis, I explore how public Wi-Fi hotspots are distributed across the city. While public Wi-Fi helps reach some marginalized communities, deployment patterns still follow commercial density and existing spatial inequalities.

🚀 Hot off the press!🔥 After first presenting it at TPRC 2022, I’m thrilled to share my latest article, now published in Technological Forecasting & Social Change: "From phone booths to Wi-Fi kiosks: the spatial inequality of public connectivity in New York City." 🗽📶.
