They say to never meet your heroes but Jackie Chan and John Wagner don't believe in that.

This Sky Arts David Bowie documentary has really done its research: "Bowie's acting career was always an eclectic collection, from family fare such as Labyrinth and MERRY CHRISTMAS MR LAWRENCE to Nicolas Roeg's The Man Who Fell to Earth" (emphasis added)

I know it's pointless to argue with these lists but some of these rankings are BANANAS

I'm a bit obsessed by people with accidental Irish accents. Edward Said and Jorge Luis Borges are my favourite examples.

How long did you agonise over whether to go with "Mrs. Binwoman" or "Mrs. Binman"?

I understand words but I don't agree with that position. Others always contribute, nobody does anything in a vacuum. If you think by stating that I'm saying he's not responsible for his own actions I don't know what to tell you.

The Germans believe all nouns are important, at least they're consistent.
010
Ryan Meade @ryano.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
OK so if you don't hold that position then can you explain how my asking for attention on other actors who might have contributed implies that Linehan isn't fully responsible?
100
Ryan Meade @ryano.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
Is the root of this disagreement that you think that somebody can only be fully responsible for their actions if absolutely nobody else is involved or has an impact on the situation?
100
Ryan Meade @ryano.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
My initial tweet wasn't intended to suggest that Linehan isn't responsible for where he ended up, but I can see how you might have read it that way so I've tried to clarify in subsequent replies. I don't know what else you want me to say.

There are letters circulating today which are unhinged for various reasons but which also reflect a broader pernicious trend of capitalising random Nouns to emphasise their Importance.

Yes, he didn't do it in a vacuum. That's not the same as saying he's not responsible.

Ryan Meade @ryano.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
Well I haven't disputed that it's on him.

Ryan Meade @ryano.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
I don't say this to excuse him in any way. I just think it's important to understand the processes behind such extreme radicalisation, which usually doesn't happen in a vacuum of solitary "research".

This is good but suggests that he went down the rabbit hole all on his own. I hope Ronson gives some attention to those who relentlessly fed his persecution complex and love-bombed him into this personal hell.

I don't mind that they take a British-centric view of things but I think it's revealing how comfortable they feel displaying ignorance of the basic facts on this topic alone.

I thought they did surprisingly well this time! Always amazing in past episodes to hear them confidently narrate the samurai wars or whatever and then laugh and bumble about as the history of their nearest neighbour is patiently explained to them.

Saad's view (as expressed in the second screenshot) is that it is childishly naive to think that cultural conflicts can be resolved other than by one side eliminating or expelling the other.
