Ryan Nims @ryannims.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Without going into the post-release drama and why I may not support ZA/UM going forward, I have finally been playing Disco Elysium, and it is a fantastic game! Ryan Nims @ryannims.bsky.social · 26/06/2026I’m almost 30 years late, but after a few false starts, I’m finally nearing the end of Final Fantasy Tactics. It definitely lives up to its reputation as a great game, and as my friends can attest, has become my whole personality in the last few weeks! 130
Ryan Nims @ryannims.bsky.social · 23/06/2026Really that whole era of Id Software games were peak. Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake. Just such innovation in such a short time! And super good music! 9200

Ryan Nims @ryannims.bsky.social · 13/06/2026Haha, oh no, it was very interesting! Especially glad you brought light to the Tuskegee experiment, because that was… not one of America’s finer moments. But people need to know about this stuff! 010
Ryan Nims @ryannims.bsky.social · 12/06/2026Finally catching up on episodes of After Dark featuring @anatomicalcat.bsky.social and I must say, these are delightfully grim! I didn’t know a lot about Burke and Hare other than the most basic facts. And the newest episode? Umm yeahwowyikes 141
Ryan Nims @ryannims.bsky.social · 09/06/2026When I certified to be a programmer, my show concept was the American bands doing that style. Tonight is revisiting that. 020
Ryan Nims @ryannims.bsky.social · 09/06/2026Most of the best known shoegaze bands came from the UK (My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Lush, Ride, etc). Some people call Smashing Pumpkins shoegaze, which I don’t really agree with, but that influence is there. Especially in some of their dreamier, noisier bits. 110
Ryan Nims @ryannims.bsky.social · 09/06/2026The term “shoegaze” was originally a derogatory term used by music critics because the musicians spent a lot of time looking down at their pedal boards 110
Ryan Nims @ryannims.bsky.social · 09/06/2026Hmm ok. Dreamy, lush guitars, sometimes played exceptionally loud with lots of feedback. Vocals tend to act more as part of the instrumentation than a way to convey words. Lots of reverb, echo, other effects. 110
