I have a feeling TCU is about to get embarrassed on Saturday against BYU and we're gonna be talking about Sonny Dykes on the hot seat. Dykes hire of Gordon Sammis as his OC is looking like one of the worst moves of the offseason. He took everything that worked under Kendal Briles and scrapped it.

The JJ McCarthy trade highlights everything that is wrong with the NFL and QB development. The Vikings drafted a 21-year-old QB who played in a limited passing offense in college. Everyone knew he wasn't a finished product and needed time to develop. So naturally they gave up after 10 bad starts

Boise State's defense has allowed 20+ yards on 10.9% of plays, ranked dead last in the FBS. Probably not an issue against WMU's offense, which ranks 112th in explosive play rate, but definitely a red flag heading into conference play

Notre Dame 🚩?? Irish RBs have gained 3+ yards before contact on 16% of their carries, ranked 128th. They ranked 28th last year (30%). There was mild offseason concerned about the backfield after losing Love/Price, but maybe it's really the OL that's taking a bigger step backwards

In its two games against FBS opponents (BYU, NIU), Arizona has blitzed 67% of the time!! That's wild, even for a 2-game span. FBS avg is 28% Unfortunately, their 27.5% pressure rate off the blitz ranks 102nd... so its not exactly working

Virginia Tech ranks 126th in third-down avoidance. 60% of sets of downs eventually reach 3rd down. 3-0 start is nice, but that's a trend that's not gonna lead to a lot of ACC wins unless it changes quickly.

Nebraska's offense has been so efficient it has converted a 1st down or scored on 1st or 2nd down 66% of the time, the 4th highest rate. Huskers ranked 48th in 3rd-down avoidance last year.

ohh here's an interesting early-season trend: Ohio State ranks 58th in pace of play and 62nd in offensive plays per game. That's a huge shift from the past two years where they purposely played slow to limit wear and tear prior to the playoffs. OSU ranked 135th in place of play last year.

Auburn's defense has been on the field for an average of 77.7 plays per game so far this year, second most in the nation. Not great! Better figure out how to get off the field before this absolutely brutal October

when opposing QBs have held the ball for 2.5 seconds or longer, Tennessee has generated a 71% pressure rate (vs FBS opponents, so throwing out the Furman game). That's the highest rate in FBS so far. Arch Manning does not get rid of the ball quickly. 63% of his dropbacks have been 2.5 sec or longer

One of the solutions to the mess of college sports that I would actually like to see: Set a hard cap on how much money an athletic department can accept in donations. That would end insane coach contracts and buyouts. It would be the end athletic facilities that put NFL locker rooms to shame.

Worth the read if you haven't taken the time to learn about the PCSA yet. There are some good things that will come of it. Restricting athlete pay without any attempt to restrict any other spending within college sports, however, makes it impossible to support.
