In the kind of work we do, everything is connected to everything so this isn't exactly a "pivot", per se. But we're focusing more on this now because it's the idea that has gotten us the strongest response. Our mission of protecting artists, however, still remains the same as always.

Even a slight improvement in procedure will have a big impact here, and TEIA (@teia.bsky.social) and teia.cafe is already halfway towards solving this problem...we need a little bit of help to take it all the way.

Over 80% of content on the internet itself is said to be in violation of something - and there's no problem bigger and obvious than this one because we literally see it every single day.

Copyright violations on the internet run rampant and I know lots of people who have given up on the idea at this point. However, recent advances in AI and detection technology has made the idea of proper tracking of proper attribution within reach.

After feedback from various people and community members, here is teia.cafe's pitch deck v3. Maybe you might have noticed but we're very open about how we do business here - we're a blockchain-based company, after all. 😂 pitch.teia.cafe
Slide 4 of teia.cafe's pitch deck, 'How it works: Proof. Protection. Peace of Mind.' Three steps: 1, Proof - Register: tokenize the work and record its license on TEIA's copyright registry. 2, Protection - Watermark: an invisible mark that survives resizing, re-compression and edits. 3, Peace of Mind - Enforce: AI attribution systems enforce copyright and royalty rules at scale. Below: blockchain for proof, watermark for identity, AI detection and attribution for reach. Live now: teia.cafe/register, /copyright and /copyrightmarketplace.

I can't keep up with all the cool stuff happening on Tezos, tbh 😂 Things are slowing down everywhere else but the community always steps it up when it matters. That's why I'm still here, even after all these years. 😇

This is part of the $30k grant (round 2) we got from @tezosfoundation.bsky.social, which we're giving to the members of the community all over the world to put on events on behalf of TEIA and the Tezos community as a whole.

Speaking of cool stuff - @teia.bsky.social's team has just voted on the latest round of events proposals and we're pushing way above 80% participation this time. I was honestly surprised a lot of people were still around but they *always* show up when it matters, even if they're busy.
Screenshot of TEIA's multisig dashboard showing 14 active proposals with a quorum of 10 of 21. Most are 'Teia Community Event Proposal' entries from merchant_coppola with 15 to 17 of 10 yes votes, one has 0 yes and 9 no, and a transfer proposal sits at 7 of 10 yes.

It means that our numbers are low, but the people are of higher quality - but this is, imo, what the general public (should) expect out of Web3. People underestimate how big of a deal this is for many - especially the general public.

(We use the blockchain so much that if you get caught doing something sketchy, it shows up on record and the whole community turns against you.) In an industry full of degens, this is not necessarily a bad thing.

The way the Tezos community does this is by having a culture of security/transparency that goes way beyond "business as usual". I've had parents feel safe enough to bring their kids into the ecosystem because they saw how serious we were about issues like these over here.

The unfortunate thing about this is that I actually agree with the direction of needing to clean up the platform and make crypto more "family friendly". But the way they're going about it just erodes trust even more and is not actually conducive to that outcome.

If you want to be part of a crypto community where your vote actually matters, try Tezos. People here actually check the ledger records, too. I know people are trying to capitalize on election season and all, but let's not settle for the LARP versions of voting, ok?

Meanwhile, in Farcaster... It's weird that they call it a "vote" but it's basically a new ToS that if you don't agree to, they kick you out. Democracy - except for those who vote "incorrectly" 🤣
Screenshot of a Farcaster app notice titled 'Farcaster is becoming the Network State Protocol'. It says Network School has acquired Farcaster, the app will be moderated, and users must click 'Vote to stay' to sign a 'social smart contract', described as a new terms of service. Buttons: Vote to stay, Vote to leave, Not now.Second screenshot of the same Farcaster notice. Vote to stay: sign the Social Smart Contract, keep posting under its rules, rules apply to past posts, accounts get a green, yellow or red standing, and violations lead to offboarding. Vote to leave: your account becomes read-only in this client, nothing is deleted, and you can export your keys and followers to another Farcaster client.

Hope that helps. At the end of the day, the main reason why people create art is to complain about how the world works. Always remember that and you're already halfway to your PhD. 👍

Something I've been playing around with lately - a spectrum grid mapping out (Western) art on scales of representational/abstract, transcendental/mundane. It's the fundamental layers of how (Western) art works - which most things fall under, pretty neatly.

A grid with representation to abstraction on the horizontal axis and transcendental to mundane on the vertical, labeled with art references like the sublime, the readymade and the aesthetics of the everyday. Ryan's works cluster near the center, a few sit in the lower-left 'the world, as is' corner, and one photo, the Tezpole, sits up top near 'the sublime (Kant, Burke)'.teia.cafe Aesthetic Compass chart for collections by ryangtanaka.tez. If you're not aware of the terms used here (a lot of it is art school talk tbh), this is the layman's version:

Anyway, if you want to try it out, it's out on teia.cafe/dashboard right now under new reports. If you don't have your own Tezos wallet portfolio, you can put in wallets of artists/collectors you admire - since it supports both.

You know what's funny, though - there's one exception - the #Tezpole, which puts it into the "sublime" category. Yes yes, me and my friends were worshipping that pole in Miami for a good year or so - so it is accurate. But it's not *my* doing, it was the community. 😆

(Art is often misunderstood - but it's not un-understandable, if you know what to look for.) I used my own portfolio, from both an artist and collector's standpoint - and it's actually pretty accurate, at least for me.

Can't wait for election season to be over - it's just filling up all of my feeds these days. Don't get me wrong, I still vote and follow the issues going on (especially local) but I'm just old enough now to know that people are just gonna do what they're gonna do 😅

It's no wonder some are saying that AI is built for neuro-divergents - whom has the most to gain from tools like these that allow you to connect different ideas and thoughts together from a wider web. We're living in interesting times, either way.

So in a roundabout way, the tech is actually forcing people to take another look at the humanities and what it means to have a 'balanced' education.

A lot of the "slop" you see out there is a result of people typing in stuff like "Here's my [idea]...uh, make it COOL", which doesn't tell anybody anything, even if you were talking to an human being.

One of the biggest ironies of the AI-era is that in order to get good results from AI, you need to have a good command of the language you're speaking and actually know what you want.

AI uses tokens, too, as do predictive markets and a lot of micro-economies that are popping up all over the place now. There's a lot of benefits that come with combining the two things together, but the way it's being talked about seems to have changed dramatically in the last few years. 👀

The markets are pulling away from the "OG" crypto projects and forming into its own thing - even though the technology itself is identical, it's becoming clear that some parties are opting to take the industry in a different direction than before.

I was kind of surprised at first but the more I look into it I think he was right. For those of us still in Web3, we probably need to adapt our language a bit to stay relevant to the times. NFTs = tokenized art.

A friend of mine sent me this article lately - tokenization is huge now, but somehow crypto/NFTs fell off the roadmap, even though they're pretty much talking about the same thing. www.citigroup.com/global/insig...
Bar chart titled "Crypto" vs. "Tokenization": same technology, different word. Crypto, labeled speculative, is about $3.0T in total market cap today, with NFTs around $1.5B. Tokenization, labeled the future of finance, is about $17B today with a 2030 base case of $5.5T and bull case of $8.2T. Citi projects up to roughly 480x growth for tokenization by 2030. An NFT is tokenized art; only the vocabulary changed.

I really do believe that it is in the tech industry's own interest to make this happen - because the reality is that copyright controls most of what happens in the arts/entertainment industries and there is more money to be had there, too.

If that can be made into a reality, people - not just artists, but everyone as a whole - may finally see how this technology can be made for the public's benefit and I do think more people will come around as well.

The idea here is to use the blockchain's immutable records and combine it with the power of AI to give proper attribution and create a royalties payment system that is both transparent and fair.

Even if our company were to close up today, the records will always remain attached to the FA2 token that has been standardized and used for over 6 years now - it's still the best chance for the industry to make it work, even today.

At teia.cafe, we're taking a much different approach - by starting with TEIA's blockchain-based registration system, which is both an open-source project, community run/owned, and a non-profit entity that acts as the "neutral ground" that was always needed in the space.

So what happens is that a new startup attempts to "solve" this problem, runs for about a few years, then shuts down eventually as they're not able to keep it going for the long-term. All those records - now just gone.

incumbents don't want competition (they're charging $50 per registration these days), new projects don't have the community's trust, and having all those agreements sitting in one server by one company made them too vulnerable to stand on their own.
