Oddly enough, the Tollway (Illinois State Toll Highway Authority) may build railroads
(605 ILCS 10/32.1)
Sec. 32.1. Power to construct railroad tracks. Upon written
approval by the Governor, the Authority may exercise any powers that exist under this Act on the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 97th General Assembly to design and construct new railroad tracks. The Authority may charge an access fee to any passenger or freight rail operator who wishes to use tracks which the Authority has constructed using the powers granted by this Section. Moneys in the Road Fund may not be used to implement this Section. Authorization must be granted to the Authority for each individual and distinct railroad track project.

Check out the kitchen floor. WTF?
A photo of a kitchen in a real estate listing. It looks normal at first, until you realize that the furniture is fake (virtually staged) and that there is a large blue-green mysterious stain spreading across the wooden floor.

A large temporary sign along a rural highway reads, “Welcome to the Grundy County corn Festival, Morris, Illinois.” There is a large clipart style graphic of an ear of corn, half way out of the husk. The text of the sign is composed of five different typefaces and four different colors.

Sounds like they are not actually protecting connections... 😬
Landline's new BOS service is different. The company is partnering with Massport rather than an airline, which means users do not earn loyalty points for the Landline bus portion of their rides, nor do they have connection guarantees if the bus, or their flight, is late.

Also has this great graphic visualizing all the effects of rent control, as measured by number of studies drawing conclusions on each:
A collage of graphs from the study linked above that shows, among other things, that rent control policies were overwhelmingly found to reduce rents. However, they were also clearly shown to reduce mobility, construction, housing quality, and housing supply, while increasing rents of uncontrolled properties.

Fun fact: you can see actual pieces of wreckage from the Hindenburg at the New England Air Museum. They're hidden in a glass case way, way, way in the back. Definitely the best way to kill time while waiting for a flight at Bradley.

The illustration of the lake lapping at the door may not have been that much of an exaggeration. The shoreline was probably right in front of the building before it was filled in.
Contemporary aerial view of the neighborhood from Google Maps with the apartment building in question marked with a red pin. I’ve drawn a red line where I am guessing the original shoreline was before it was filled in and extended out into the lake.

You can tell that no one thought the South Side Elevated was going to be around for much longer by how they cobbled together this hilarious bridge-on-a-bridge thing over the Dan Ryan instead of building a proper new structure.
The South Side Elevated passes over the sunken Dan Ryan Expressway by means of a bridge that acts as an intermediary (where ground level used to be) that holds up the original elevated structure

Safety and reliability were also focal points of the discussion, as speakers acknowledged the real concerns of riders and the historical context behind reduced service. "Managing the system efficiently means that costs had to be cut. And so because of that, one of the first things you saw was fewer employees at stations. And the last thing—we reduced tremendously the transit police force," said Brown.
Dillard reinforced this point, stating, "New York has 20 times as many police officers on their system than we do. So, it's obvious that we need more police officers."
