Partner: You might log into BlueSky and post pictures of your rack.
A high-angle shot captures a black 15U open-frame server rack with casters standing on a wooden floor. Behind the rack, framed perfectly by its rear face, is a cardboard box with a 4U server chassis (cover open) resting on it. The open chassis reveals internal components, including a Mini-ITX motherboard, several beige and brown Noctua cooling fans, and, notably, an empty PCIe slot. The front of the chassis has a dense array of hot-swap bays, including thirteen 3.5-inch bays, two 2.5-inch bays, and a single optical drive bay. To the left of the rack sits a speckled stool, and the background includes exercise equipment, a VR headset, scattered tools, and a bunch of hard drives.

No, absolutely not. I confirmed my settings before posting. My phone rebooted overnight to install an update. And even if I had mistakenly approved an update (I didn't), my point would still stand because these systems are designed to wear users down to manufacture "consent".

My ONT got replaced yesterday, and now my fibre connection is behaving itself again.
A Smokeping chart visualizing network latency and packet loss to a gateway over three hours. The primary data is presented as a series of green horizontal lines, indicating the median Round Trip Time (RTT), which consistently hovers around 3.2 to 3.3 milliseconds.

Surrounding the median RTT line are translucent gray bands of varying shades, representing the distribution of RTT samples. These bands are relatively narrow and consistent, indicating a stable connection with minimal jitter or outliers in latency.

Below the main graph, a legend provides more specific metrics. "median rtt" shows the median RTT at different timestamps. "packet loss" is stated as 0.00% average, minimum, and maximum. This is further illustrated by "loss color" showing a solid green square, corresponding to 0 packet loss. Other colors for packet loss (blue, purple, pink, red) are also listed but are not present in the graph.

The "probe" information indicates that 20 ICMP Echo Pings (56 Bytes) were sent every 300 seconds (5 minutes). The chart's horizontal axis displays timestamps, starting from approximately 10:40 and ending at 13:34:58 on Saturday, July 12, 2025. The vertical axis is labeled "Seconds" and ranges from 0.0 to 4.0 milliseconds, providing a clear scale for the latency measurements.

I am being punished by the gods.
This image contains three graphs from the network monitoring tool Smokeping, showing severe performance issues with my home internet connection to its gateway IP.

The graphs display latency and packet loss over three different time periods: the last 3 hours, 30 hours, and 10 days.

All three graphs show a highly unstable connection. The primary indicators of problems are the tall, dark vertical bars and spikes, which represent moments of extremely high latency, sometimes exceeding 1.4 seconds. The grey "smoke" around the median line is very thick, showing huge variations in response times.

The colored lines each graph indicate significant packet loss. The text summary for the 30-hour graph shows an average packet loss of 32%, and the 10-day graph shows an average of 13%.

My home internet connection is currently making in-flight wifi look good.
A Smokeping chart showing two days of internet connection performance from Thursday morning to Saturday morning. The y-axis is latency in milliseconds (0-600+ ms), the x-axis is time.

The connection suffers from extremely high and erratic latency, with many spikes reaching or exceeding 600 ms, especially from Thursday afternoon through Friday and into Saturday. Black vertical lines show wide latency variability.

Packet loss is also severe. The "loss color" key shows transitions from green (0% loss) to light blue (1/20), various blues (2/20 to 4/20), and critically, purple (10/20) and red (19/20) segments, indicating very high loss. Summary statistics show an average loss of 28.51% and 60.75% "now."

In summary, the chart depicts a highly unstable internet connection with frequent, severe latency spikes over 500 ms and substantial packet loss, often reaching near or total failure.

From: Jeffery, Edward

Hi Ryan,

I hope you are well. I was wondering if you would be up for coming on Julia
Hartley-Brewer's mid-morning show tomorrow at 12:30pm via zoom for 10mins
to discuss your email to Parliamentarians over your concerns about Trans
rights being eroded in the UK since the Supreme Court ruling.

It would be great to get you on tomorrow to discuss if you are free?

Let me know your thoughts.

Kind regards,
Ted

My hardware hacking workstation, based on a £60 desk. Any tips on how to secure the silicone mat in place?

Assorted tools including a multimeter, heat gun, soldering iron, flush cutters, wire strippers, tweezers, flux, desoldering ribbon, and a heat sink clamp are organized on the sheet.
