Happy Halloween everybody! For those that don’t know this is my annual thread where I keep track of how many kids come through. Usually it’s between 400 and 500. Living in a 2400 home neighborhood with sidewalks and street lights makes us a target rich environment. But it’s always fun.

Working on a group project that is preparing a document. The draft is in Century Schoolbook. First thing the leader of group did is reformat the document into Calibri because "they don't have an appellate lawyer brain" and "Century Schoolbook is too hard to read on a computer screen." 😶

Can you use something other than a period to end a sentence in an appellate brief? I'm not talking about a petition or response or motion but the actual merits brief. I'm two pages in to this brief I'm reviewing and I've already encountered a ? and a ! intentionally used. #AppellateSky

So we sell the SDGa courthouses in Dublin, Statesboro, and Savannah but keep the ones in Augusta and Brunswick. That will make federal court operations efficient! Same for the ones in Rome and Atlanta, but keep Newnan and Gainesville in the NDGa.

Happened at the state level in a criminal appeal. Supreme Court appointed me to argue in defense of the lower court’s ruling since the DA claimed to no longer have adverse interests to the defense. Three tables at oral argument and each of us had a hot bench for different reasons.

Worn seersucker in court at the trial level but I don't think that ever seen anyone wearing it at the appellate level. GA Supreme Court Rule 55(3) Counsel. Attire for counsel should be restrained and appropriate to reflect the dignity of appearing before the State’s highest court.

I do the same. These days, I am thanking the Court for allowing me to appear & argue as Amicus. But from a procedural posture, OA is not guaranteed. Thanking the Court for an opportunity to discuss the case with them seems respectful & appropriate (no matter the tone that conversation might take)

Sounds like we are going to need more employment lawyers to be involved in college sports. There’s also another side to consider - making football players employees of the university rather than student-athletes will impact course offerings and employment of instructional staff.
