Rachel Wegener @rwegener2.bsky.social · 22/09/2026This publication was one of my favorite projects that I’ve been a part of. I gained so many insights from my thoughtful coauthors and the discussions we had in writing meetings left me thinking all day. Many thanks to the coauthors and especially to Jessica Scheick for her leadership. 100
Rachel Wegener @rwegener2.bsky.social · 22/09/2026And the most important point — this collaboration is iterative. This isn’t a user research or feedback phase. It’s about co-creating tools and continuous community engagement throughout the data ecosystem. This is about making the most of every dollar spent on data production. 110
Rachel Wegener @rwegener2.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Delivering data to a broad user base hits every component of data delivery. In our paper we touch on trainings, infrastructure, and mission design. We talk about different ways to fund community development and facilitate leadership. 100
Rachel Wegener @rwegener2.bsky.social · 22/09/2026We hear a lot about the growing amount of data, but perhaps just as pressing is the growing scope of data delivery - from user groups made of targeted research users to broad interdisciplinary science users and increased engagement far outside of academic research. Building that is REALLY hard. 100
Rachel Wegener @rwegener2.bsky.social · 22/09/2026What would happen if data providers didn’t just deliver data and tools, but co-constructed them collaboratively with their communities? That’s the question we explore in our paper “Ten rules to increase the usability of earth observation mission datasets”, published yesterday. 🧵🧵🧵 151
