My #Lanterns hot take.
The end result is that the series feels like like “Hard-Traveling Heroes” and more like Gerard Jones’s The Road Back, with artist Pat Broderick and a handful of inkers and colorists. But don’t go looking for a recent reprint of The Road Back — you won’t find it. DC nominally parted ways with Jones for good after he was arrested in 2018 for possession of child sexual abuse material. Nevertheless, even beyond the “vibes” and setting of Lanterns, Warner Bros. used The Detachable Kid, a fairly transparent knock-off of a Jones-created character called Arm Fall-Off Boy, in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. That felt a little off, and so does this. Must we be confronted with the choice of watching a major corporation ripping a writer off or watching them pay a predator? Why not just avoid his relatively minor contributions to the DC Universe entirely?

So true. One of my all-time favorite comics is a pretty didactic issue of "The Adventures of Superman," in which Dan Jurgens explored a teenage Clark's darkest moment. It's emotionally honest and really understands Clark's character, so even though it isn't "great" by most metrics, it inspires me.

FYI: Today's issue of SAVAGE DRAGON ships with three different covers. The version with retro-style trade dress features an "uncensored" version of one page, whereas the other two versions are a bit tamer. The actual story content of the page remains unchanged in all three.

Pretty shitty that @mlb.com , @jomboymedia.bsky.social and a few others have already put out posts/stories framing Contreras as the aggressor rather than racist Nats pitcher Cade Cavalli.

It’s fucking INFURIATING that Bill Kristol is doing more to call out Trump than the Democrats in Congress.
"We can fight to stop the ballroom. If this means leaving the area as a
destruction site for the rest of Trump's presidency, so be it.
Let its ugliness exemplify the Trump era. Let its rubble symbolize what he's tried to do to the American republic."

Side note unrelated to Erin’s point: did you know that one of the redshirts who got killed at Terminus to prove the bad guys were a Very Serious Threat was Robin Lord Taylor, who would go on to do GREAT work on Gotham almost immediately after?

I love this quote from @marcguggenheim.bsky.social, explaining why there's so much more love for the first season of #LegendsOfTomorrow these days than there was during its run.
The truth is, if you go back and rewatch that two-hour pilot of Legends, I think you'll see that the seventies bar fight to “Love Will Keep Us Together” was a moment when you saw in the very first two hours, what the show would ultimately become. I think if we had a normal pause-and-reflect period between the pilot and the next episode, we would've said, “Oh, that's where the show lives! Let's tack towards that.”
In fact, I do remember sitting in the editing room with Greg, watching the rough cut of the two-hour pilot, and afterwards I turned to him. I was like, “We've been talking about the show all wrong. We've been talking about this show as our version of The Avengers, but the truth is it's our version of Guardians of the Galaxy.”
The problem is by that point, the ship had very much sailed. We were committed to a certain tone, and we were committed to a certain storyline, and we didn't have the time—or even the ability – to make a major course-correction until the end of the first season.
But now, because Legends, had a second life on Netflix, people came to the show without any preconceived notions. That's why they are able to just enjoy season one, purely on its own merits. I don't think it's a bad season of television. I've been involved with bad seasons of television, and I don't think it's a bad season of television by any means.
To me, it's just a show that didn't know what it wanted to be yet.

Got sucked into a little research rabbit hole, and apparently 737 4th Avenue in Brooklyn is where Hungry Hamed's used to be. It was bought up by Dunkin' and existed in that state for a while, but now appears to be a mixed-use residential building. Sadly I can't find a 1990ish photo of the place.

So, legendary comics artist Sal Buscema drew Beebo! Because it was an odd request, it ended up taking him a little longer to finish, so by then, "The Good, the Bad and the Cuddly" had aired. You can see Beebo's steely-eyed determination in the piece. I love it. 6/fin
