Life has been quite the barrage lately, haha, but goddamn it, the arts are still happening! Cross stitch progress and writing progress. Couldn’t ask for more 🥰
Progress on my Mega Man 1 cross stitch: Elecman is the first completed baddie for the select stage screen, along with the words for Cutman and the beginning of his outlining A snippet of my fanfic chapter that says the following:

Everything he's needed as a person, he's found for himself: Being understood. Advocated for, reassured, even celebrated sometimes. And it's decently whittled the doubt; he's much kinder to himself than he used to be.

But that's why it hurts - he had to find it.

Self-awareness never feels like a substantial step, but it always, always is ❤️

After forever and a day, finally finished my FFI cross stitch! Have yet to figure out how to re-do the main collage, so I’m letting it chill until I finish the next baby: The OG Mega Man select screen 🥰 I watched my brother get frustrated at these little hooligans so many times 🤣
The completed cross stitch of the final battle scene from Final Fantasy 1: Garland, a knight with a flowing cape, being attacked by the party on the left with Fighter, White Mage, Black Belt and Black Mage. HP stats are on the right and the menu bar underneath, with the options of fight, magic, drink, item and run.A photo of the Mega Man select screen pattern. Six baddies are each in their own square - Cutman, Gutsman, Iceman, Bombman, Fireman and Elecman - with the words “Select stage, press start” in the centerProgress on my Mega Man cross stitch: The words “select stage, press start” are complete in the center. The writing for Elecman is complete, as well as the black outline of the character

Holy moly, it’s been six months since I’ve posted! For good reason - I’ve been lucky enough to expand my artistic endeavors into writing 🥰 Finally making progress again with cross stitching, but will now also be posting chapters every Saturday. Yay for creating! archiveofourown.org/works/85800266
A photo of my Final Fantasy 1 cross stitch: The final battle between Garland, a knight in a flowing cape, with the hero party ready to attack (Fighter, White Mage, Black Belt and Black Mage). The selection menu is below them, listing the battle options of Fight, Magic, Drink, Item and Run.A photo of the screen shot from my story titled As the Moon. Text is as follows:

A deep-dive into the lengths Eijiro Kirishima will go to to care for his closest friend - and inadvertently discover that he's just as important to care for. In other words: The return love letter to As the Sun, exploring and loving Kirishima with the same full-to-bursting heart I love Bakugo with.

Oh, to be at the beginning again :)

I am so, so happy to yet again go on this journey from Kirishima's perspective (an idea that was gifted to me by the illustrious Another Mayo on Twitter, where legitimately 80% of my inspirations are coming from. Friendship doesn't get cooler than that. Like, come on). As much as I love Bakugo with my whole heart, the character that taught me what an apology should sound like, I have been mindblown how much more me-coded Kirishima is, haha. It's beautiful. I'm already gaining so much pride in my personal journey and how far I've come in my life. Bakugo changed how I interpreted my world, but Kirishima is proving to change how I interpret myself. What more can you ask for from characters this well-developed. What a gift MHA has become to me.

No sooner did I decide to give my right hand a break from soreness & pain than I went and stabbed myself in the left hand prepping lunch and needed stitches 😅 Three and a half weeks later, I’m finally back to progress (albeit slower, haha). Felt so good to start up again 🥹 #FinalFantasy #crossstitch
Progress on my Final Fantasy cross stitch: Pillars lining the top border are complete; am now starting the purple bits to Garland, the final boss. To the right are the player characters Fighter, White mage, Black belt and Black mage, their HP stat blocks behind them and the action menu of fight/magic/drink/item/run below them.

Progress has been slower with pain going on and off in my right hand, so I’m taking it easy for it to not get too aggravated. Darn all my hobbies involving the hands! 🤣 But the pillars are looking great against the black backdrop, can’t wait to bring Garland in 🥳 #FinalFantasy #crossstitch
Progress on my Final Fantasy cross stitch: slow but steady progress on the background for the boss box, with pillars of varying sizes filling the top portion. Took a tedious little minute to get the completed boxes filled in, but finally got to move on to the background for Garland’s boss box. My wonderfully crafty daughter actually had good felt on hand so I could scoot the fabric over far enough. Not much more to go! #FinalFantasy #crossstitch

Somehow, amidst one hell of a parental weekend of bussing like never before, I was still able to make progress 🥳 Nothing irks me like stopping before a space is filled in like that dang menu glove, but I was so exhausted. Soon, menu glove 🧤 #FinalFantasy #crossstitch
Progress on my Final Fantasy cross stitch: Item menu is filled in with the commands of fight, magic, drink, item and run. It is beneath the four player characters of Fighter, White mage, Black belt and Black mage, with three of the four status trackers with their names/hp to the right.

Black belt is appropriately named and the boxes around the character stats are taking shape. Finishing black belt’s will give me the spacing to start working on the battle menu underneath. Old school RPG design was just so simple and lovely 🥰 #FinalFantasy #crossstitch

And now for the boring progress: more grey pole borders! Granted, this is nothing compared to stitching endless black rows on black cloth, haha, but tedium always has its moments. Made it to the corner of what’ll start the name & health boxes, though, so that’s something! #FinalFantasy #crossstitch

Seven and a half months to completely mod an AI pattern into making sense is going to be my crowning achievement as a cross stitcher. I am so proud of making this Stardew Valley map just how I wanted 🥰 And lo, the collage is now a quartet! On to the next work! #StardewValley #crossstitch

Three greens down, six to go! Nearly have the grasses around the surrounding forests complete. I decided it’d be easier to shade the forest floor this way - the pattern had no forest floor at all, just a bunch of misshapen trees. So, so relieved it’s coming out well! #StardewValley #crosssititch
Progress on my Stardew Valley cross stitch: Grass is nearly filled in surrounding of the mega-forest, which is the last area to complete on the map, just under the Stardew Valley sign. A solid ocean! Cliff sides! Wizard’s tower! An almost-full island and flower dance field! The only colors left in my thread box are the nine greens of the grasses; I’m partway through the most prevalent one. Countdown mode is getting serious 💪 #StardewValley #crossstitch
Progress on my Stardew Valley cross stitch: Only empty space left is the grasses around the big forest to the left of the map, under the Stardew Valley sign in the top corner. The rest of the map is complete with player farm, town square, ocean, mountains and surrounding forests.

Progress on my Stardew Valley cross stitch: Nearly have the rest of the ocean filled in at the bottom left corner; completing that, all that will be left is the rest of the cliffsides and forest floor! Progress on my Stardew Valley cross stitch: Got the river through the mega-forest complete, followed it down to the shoreline and decided to continue with the beginnings of the final section of the ocean. This is the last quadrant to complete for the full map, which consists of the player farm, town square, ocean, mountains and surrounding forests.

Progress on my Stardew Valley cross stitch: The hills below the Stardew Valley sign to the left of the map are 99% filled in, with the mega-trees of the forest filled in beneath them. The other 3/4 of the map is complete with the town square, ocean, mountains and surrounding forests.

Progress on my Stardew Valley cross stitch: About 3/4 of the big trees are filled in for the forest to the left of the player farm & underneath the Stardew Valley sign in the top left corner. Progress on my Stardew Valley cross stitch: Overgrown forest is finally outlined to the left of the map, just under h to e Stardew Valley sign in the top left corner. This is adjacent to the completed 3/4 of the map containing the player farm, town square, ocean, mountains and surrounding forests.

Of all places in this map, I knew this forest would be the trickiest. Even compared to redesigning the sign, this forest takes the cake for the most reworking needed. I’m even going against the pattern I sketched for unforeseen discrepancies, but progress is being made! #StardewValley #crossstitch

Finally! A completed desert!!! 🥳 I like the counter-balance I’ve created with both top corners having colors the pattern didn’t call for; the yellow of the desert and purple of the mountains offer better contrast to all the green and gold. Now onto more hills! #StardewValley #crossstitch
Progress on my Stardew Valley cross stitch: Desert surrounding the Stardew Valley sign is complete; just starting out on the hills underneath before getting into the large forest containing the Wizard’s tower. Got the sign filled in, but the lighter colors around the border were too stark for me to be satisfied, so I spent all yesterday taking out the two lighter shades and blending them a bit better. A minor detail, but I’m happy with the results! Onto the desert! 🥳 #StardewValley #crossstitch
Progress on my Stardew Valley cross stitch: Finished the Stardew Valley sign, along with taking out the lighter colors along the wooden borders and making them darker to blend a bit better. This is next to the 3/4 completed map of the town square, ocean, mountains and surrounding forests. A zoomed-in photo of the Stardew Valley sign with the darker shades along the wooden border A zoomed-in photo of the Stardew Valley sign with the lighter shades around the wooden border; I felt it didn’t blend as well and thought it distracting, so I took out the lighter two shades and replaced them

Nearly done with the sign! The lightest brown came out more orange than expected, but it’s the best match to the game colors I found. I’m going to re-do the wood panel border a bit, bring in more mid-brown to even the shading out. Looking forward to the desert soon! 🏜️ #StardewValley #crossstitch
Progress on my Stardew Valley cross stitch: Sign displaying “Stardew Valley” in the game’s classic font is nearly complete, with only a bit on the bottom to fill in. This is in the top right corner next to the nearly completed map, with the town square, ocean, mountains and surrounding forests.

Down to the final sign color! The lighter colors aren’t blending as seamlessly as I’d hoped, but I’m also well aware of my own overthinking, haha - I think it’ll look better once it’s fully filled in. It’s also just so large compared to how tiny everything’s been! 🤣 #StardewValley #crossstitch
Progress on my Stardew Valley cross stitch: Most of the wooden border is filled in on the Stardew Valley sign at the top left of the photo. Rest of the map is 3/4 filled in with the town square, ocean, mountains and surrounding forests.

Can’t remember the last time I had two solid progress posts in a row! Woooo! Getting to outline the whole thing and see how it fits was such an accomplishment in one day. So much happier with the correct font; can’t wait to see how the wood colors I chose blend together 🥳 #StardewValley #crossstitch
Progress on my Stardew Valley cross stitch: The three-quarters complete game map - with town square, ocean, mountains and surrounding forests - now has the sign “Stardew Valley” outlined in the top left corner

✅ Ocean ✅ Leah’s house ✅ Marnie’s barn ✅ The Hat-selling-cat’s house Woooo! A productive few days! Onto removing bits of the desert road and grass to make space for my boldest redesign: the Stardew Valley sign. Very much looking forward to how it’ll turn out! #StardewValley #crossstitch
Progress on my Stardew Valley cross stitch: Three quarters complete! Map so far consists of the town square, player farm, ocean, rivers, mountains, and neighboring forests. How the Stardew Valley sign looks in the original pattern: Rounded planks of wood are stacked together lengthwise with a torn piece of parchment laid over it, with “STARDEW VALLEY” written in skinny all-caps fontMy sketch for my Stardew Valley sign on my cross stitch pattern printout: Atop the pinks, greens and all other assortments of bright colors of the pattern, I drew a solid-edged wood border with “Stardew Valley” in the center using the game’s trademark bubble-like font style
