G’morning baristas. The Kinks’ “Sunny Afternoon” was in my head when I woke on this very sunny morning in Dubrovnik. Fantastic city. Apparently, re-enacting Cersei’s walk of shame is frowned upon (wish they told me beforehand). Enjoy the coffee. youtu.be/TYIl6n_SRCI?...

Greetings Baristas. Having had two Americanos already, let’s listen to a band that I’d describe as ‘fun, mischievous and angry’, Dropkick Murphys. And in anticipation of the Head of Charles (which I raced in long ago), “I’m shipping up to Boston” Enjoy the coffee! youtu.be/9BMv4kecwEQ?...

"Where am I going Where have I been" Today's Barista song is from Echo & The Bunnymen. I saw them in concert in a YMCA basement in London around the time that this song, "Do It Clean" was released. Still great 45 years later (the song and London). Enjoy the coffee! youtu.be/wjbTCI8o0X4?...

"You might laugh, you might frown Walking 'round London town" Baristas, today's coffee-making song is about London (where I lived for almost 8 years). Lily Allen's "LDN". Love her sassy voice and satiric lyrics along with the musical mix/mash-up behind. Great tune! youtu.be/wmYT79tPvLg?...

Another great book to post. Eric Idle’s @ericidle.bsky.social And not only did he sign it but Eric (if I may)—whose signature a card says IS authentic—has put the fun & humor (some sadness too) back in growing up and growing old(er) while making a home outside a lovely village in Provence. Enjoy!

Before the Moog there was the Hammond, perfect in today's barista song, Deep Purple's "Hush". Blackmore's driving guitar and the underlying bass make this a great song for coffee making, especially since it is so dark in the early morning now. Enjoy--and air guitar away! youtu.be/zk2ci5fi0W4?...

Just finished reading this wonderful book by @nealbascomb Not only does he tell a great and exciting story of early Grand Prix racing but the background of Nazi Germany’s rise plays an important and frightening place in its history. Highly recommended read!

Baristas, today we listen to a Beatles classic, covered by Patti Smith: "Within You Without You". Both versions are wonderful, yet different in tone and texture. Smith uses guitar and drums in place of sitar and other Indian instruments. Psychedelic vs. Emotive. Enjoy! youtu.be/PKsag1JjJ28?...

"They're watching every move we make". Today's barista song is dedicated to the times we live in. Fun Boy Three's, "The Lunatics Have taken Over the Asylum". Yes, it's gimmicky, and musically repetitive, but you can sing the chorus loudly. Enjoy that coffee. youtu.be/sWLdZFCMx8Y?...

Though I love Traffic (the group, not the LA Freeways), Joe Cocker's version of "Feeling Alright" with its bluesy, honky-tonk tone, and his deep rich voice is great. That's this morning's barista song because it's Sunday, it's super-hot outside and we're uh feeling alright? youtu.be/k05Wk3HTndM

"But that was when I ruled the world..." Today's barista song is, for me, a reminder of Autumn and the cycle of life. Coldplay's "Viva la Vida". Yet, it is hard to define Fall in Los Angeles; usually, on a given day, leaves plummet en masse to ground--and then you know. youtu.be/dvgZkm1xWPE?...

Today's barista song is "Break on Through", by The Doors. The lyrics, Morrison's voice--and, importantly, the almost equal balance between Morrison's voice and the 3 other's instruments. It is an almost perfect interplay--making The Doors so compelling. #TheDoors #coffee youtu.be/KgRcOgtkgLY?...
