Such a lovely movie. I think it fairly accurately portrays some aspects of life in Tokyo (for some)—to take pride in work even at non-glamours job and and also to have a simple hobby or passion that seems to occupy the other part of life. But also tension between independence and loneliness.

I honestly don’t leave my neighborhood that much but when I do it’s hard not to notice the incredible number of foreign tourists in Tokyo. One observation, why is it that the tourists with the worst fashion have the biggest suitcases.

Aren’t you describing a system when you say “structured and linear” environment? I’d argue that most designers are not that good at system thinking and are frustrated and bored when forced in the role. Of course some flourish.

Related. I tried this week to use an AI tool to generate 2D simple scenarios sketches and on first glance looked great and on actual appraisal quite awful and wrong. And attempting to improve with better prompt only generated new awfulnesses. No doubt it will improve.

Yes. The first step on the path to becoming a designer is getting a level of competency in a tool to communicate your ideas and then communicate well enough for your ideas to be construction instructions. That’s my agnostic tool manifesto.. Figma is next level and now do everything I can in it. 🤣

I never really met designers saying, “everybody is a designer” or at least “actual” designers. Where “actual” qualifies as having design process + a skill/craft. Figma is a legitimate craft. The point, using a design process is great but doesn’t necessarily ordain participants as designers.

Facebook basically started making shadow profiles of your friends when they never gave permission to be on the site. I think what’s app (the worst messaging app ever) refuses to let you save a contact if you don’t agree. So I never agree to it if I can resist.
