Lots of genre-names from lots of different mediums invite the reader to investigate further themselves. Because these mediums have a rich history and their genres are in constant conversation with one another But for some reason, games aren't allowed to do this When games do it, it's 'gatekeeping'

So many genres have names that do not fully (or even partially) describe them. That is the nature of art. Not every trend can be summed up in a snappy two-word phrase and attempts to do so are often clumsy and awkward.

I'm not even talking about money or the access to talent here. The cultural benefit to just being a bonafide pokemon is huge. They are given so much more space for people to find joy in them It's a very charitable environment for how people interact with them, that other monster tamers do not have.

I think it's a byproduct of the Mojang's broader inclination to lock useful tools behind expensive crafting requirements (ie. the recovery compass) that's normalised stuff like the F3 menu to such an extent that it no longer registers with some people that it IS still a debug menu

The funny thing about Fiendfolio is actually gives me an appetite for a more traditional zelda-like game featuring it's cast of enemies. I'll often play something and say to myself, "this rules, I'd love to see it as a roguelike". Pretty rare for me to feel the reverse. Consider it high praise.
